Sean Couturier is in the hospital under evaluation after being struck in the head by a shot on Saturday.
"We still don't know [full details]," said Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. "Thank God he turned his head in time where it didn't hit him in [the face]." Couturier's baseline tests were similar to his preseason scores, which means he might not have a concussion, but Holmgren thinks that doctors are still checking to see if he has any damage to his skull or "any internal damage."

Sean Couturier will miss the remainder of Saturday's game because of a head injury.
Couturier was struck by the puck and fell to the ice. The obvious fear is that Couturier is the latest concussion victim on a team that is already missing Brayden Schenn, Claude Giroux, and Chris Pronger, but the severity his injury is not yet known. It's possible that Couturier's absence from the game will prove to be precautionary. After all, the law of averages suggests that the Flyers will have to get a break at some point.

With Claude Giroux sidelined indefinitely with a concussion, rookie Sean Couturier will assume top-line responsibilities.
A very talented player in his own right, Couturier will center the top line with Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell on the flanks. The 19-year-old has played all 28 games for the Flyers and is 5-3-8 and plus-8 with an average ice time of 12:47, a figure that will certainly get a bump starting tonight in Washington.

Sean Couturier is on a line with Jaromir Jagr and Scott Hartnell Monday morning.
Couturier got the promotion because Claude Giroux is dealing with a head injury. The full extent of Giroux's injury isn't known, but it looks like Couturier will get a big opportunity if Giroux can't play on Tuesday. Couturier has a ton of potential, but he's been limited to just 12:47 minutes per game this season.

Sean Couturier has gone 13 games without recording a single point.
It's not unusual for young players to be extremely streaky, but it's worth noting that Couturier's averaging just 12:38 minutes per game. He's worth holding onto in keeper leagues, but he probably won't have much value in 2011-12.

Sean Couturier logged just 8:28 minutes of playing time on Friday.
Couturier is averaging 12:50 minutes this season. He's got tremendous potential, but right now, it's an accomplishment that he's even managed to stick with the Flyers. He probably won't have any fantasy value in standard leagues for a couple years.

Sean Couturier has been outstanding for Philadelphia at both ends of the ice early into his first professional season.
The talented center dropped to the Flyers at the eighth overall pick and his coach couldn't be happier. "Defensively, penalty kill, he does the right things," said bench boss Peter Laviolette. "Offensively, he got some opportunities and cashed them in. He's been really strong." Couturier has notched five goals and eight points in 13 games, while leading all rookies with a plus-9 rating. If he can keep this up, he should be in the running for the Calder Trophy at the end of the year.

Sean Couturier centered James van Riemsdyk and Jakub Voracek on the second line during Tuesday's practice.
He is projected to line up there on Wednesday night in Buffalo with Daniel Briere sidelined because of an upper-body injury. Couturier hasn't been given many offensive opportunities during his rookie campaign, as he has been utilized mostly on the penalty kill and in the bottom-six forward group, so it will be interesting to see how he plays in his new role.

Sean Couturier played in his 10th NHL game on Thursday, which means that this will count as the first season of his entry-level contract.
Teams typically give promising rookies a nine-game tryout before deciding if they want to keep them for the remainder of the season. In Couturier's case, it looks like the Flyers have decided to stick with him for the foreseeable future. Couturier has gotten off to a decent start with two goals and four points, but we don't expect him to have much fantasy value this season. If you're in a keeper league and he's still available, pick him up as he could be something special in a few years.

An NHL source familiar with the situation is reporting that Sean Couturier will stay with the Flyers for the foreseeable future.
The Philadelphia rookie will play in his ninth game of the season on Wednesday in Montreal and the team is right back in action on Thursday against Winnipeg. If the Flyers don't want Couturier's entry-level deal to begin this year then he will have to be returned to junior before the game versus the Jets. Stay tuned.
