Danault picked up an assist and went plus-1 -- but also lost all six of his faceoffs -- in Thursday's season-opening win against Buffalo.
EDGE Analysis
Although Danault is far from a high-profile player, he does have pedigree as a 2011 first-rounder and is still only 23 years old. He's serving in bottom-six duty for now, but if he can find ways to keep appearing on the scoresheet, there's room to move up the ranks of Montreal's forwards. For now, most fantasy owners should simply monitor his progress.

Danault agreed to a two-year contract with the Canadiens on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Danault was traded from the Blackhawks to the Canadiens during the middle of the 2015-16 season and ended playing in 21 games for Montreal, posting three goals and two assists. The Canadiens extended a qualifying offer to him just over a week ago, meaning they would've been able to match any offer he received on the open market. Danault is likely going to be in a bottom-six role during the upcoming season, so his fantasy value will remain severely restricted.

Danault, a pending restricted free agent, received a qualifying offer from the Canadiens on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Submitting a qualifying offer to Danault before Monday's deadline prevented him from becoming an unrestricted free agent ahead of the July 1 signing period. The 23-year-old is likely to be confined to a bottom-six role next season with his primary contributions coming in the faceoff circle. Last season, he headed to the dot 519 times -- though he won just 47.6 percent of those draws. There's not much fantasy value here.

Danault scored a goal on his only shot in Saturday night's 5-2 loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Danault, Chicago's first-round draft pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, has made little impact outside the face-off circle (57.3% on draws) since joining Montreal 15 games. Saturday's goal was just his second tally and he's taken a mere 14 shots. He's going to be in the lineup every night over the final six games, but as fourth-liner, limit your expectations.

Danault scored his first goal since being acquired by Montreal in Tuesday night's 4-3 overtime win over Dallas. He finished with two shots on net, three hits and a blocked shot in 14:52.
EDGE Analysis
Danault's primarily skating on the fourth line, but his ability at the faceoff circle gets him more shifts than an average bottom-liner. He won 9-of-12 on Tuesday and has won 48-of-69 draws (69.6 percent) in his six games with the Habs. He's going to be active every night, so there's an opportunity for him to earn shifts with more skilled players.

Danault was demoted to the fourth line for Wednesday night's shootout loss to Anaheim, the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
The recently acquired Danault (from Chicago) had shown some skill at the dot, winning 23 of 29 in his first two games with Montreal, but his minus-3 rating got him dropped to fourth-line winger. He had one hit and no shots while finishing an even in plus/minus in 11:30 of ice time.

Danault won 15-of-19 faceoffs in 14:17 TOI in Saturday night's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.
EDGE Analysis
Danault, who centered Montreal's speed line with Paul Byron and Jacob De La Rose, made his debut with the Canadiens after he was acquired from Chicago the day before. The 23-year-old Quebec native was buried on the Blackhawks, but he'll have an every-night opportunity with Montreal, which currently sits 12th in the Eastern Conference.

Danault, who was acquired by Montreal from Chicago on Friday, is in the active lineup for Saturday's game against Toronto, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Danault, who has a goal and four assists in 30 games with the Blackhawks, will skate on the third line with Jacob De La Rose and Paul Byron.

The Blackhawks traded Danault and a 2018 second-round pick to the Canadiens in exchange for Tomas Fleischmann and Dale Weise on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Blackhawks have decided to go all in this season, and Danault is the latest victim of Chicago's quest for the cup. Danault, a former first-round pick, has been decent in a limited role with the Blackhawks this season, notching five points (one goal, four assists) and 48 shots on goal while averaging 12:51 of ice time in 30 games. The 23-year-old center likely won't ever develop into a gifted scorer, but will be a strong bottom-six forward for the Canadiens, and an asset on the penalty kill and in the faceoff circle.

Danault registered a goal Friday night against the Sabres, which counted as the game-winner and first score of his NHL career.
EDGE Analysis
Leading up to his goal, Danault took the puck from center ice and left Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen in the dust after a slick stickhandling move. Remember, Danault missed more than two months of the season after undergoing hip surgery so it's refreshing to see him get on the board. We're talking about the 26th overall draft selection from 2011, lauded for his relentless work ethic and determination on the rink. With so much offensive talent in Chicago, it's tough for opponents to consistently keep them in check and Danault should continue to bloom while shadowing a supreme center talent like Jonathan Toews.
