Leighton will split time with Antti Raanta in goal for Chicago on Thursday in the exhibition game against the Red Wings, CSN Chicago reports.
Leighton, who was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in 1999, re-signed with the club during the summer after stints with several teams in the US and the KHL. Ironically, he was in goal for the Flyers and gave up the game-winning goal to Patrick Kane that handed the Blackhawks the 2010 Stanley Cup. Leighton is expected to start at Rockford of the AHL, but could get time with the Blackhawks if Raanta or Corey Crawford are injured.

Leighton signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on Monday, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Leighton will most likely start the season in the AHL with Corey Crawford and Antti Raanta already on the depth chart for the Blackhawks. He will provide the team with depth at the position, however, and could find his way to the team if either netminder goes down with an injury.

Michael Leighton has agreed to a one-year deal with Donbass Donetsk of the KHL.
Columbus acquired him, along with a third-round pick, from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for goaltender Steve Mason in April. There wasn't any room for him on the Blue Jackets with Sergei Bobrovsky and Curtis McElhinney on the roster, but Donbass created a spot for him by releasing Chris Holt.

Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards isn't worried about Michael Leighton getting rusty.
Leighton has played in just one NHL game this season and it sounds like the only way he'll play is if Sergei Bobrovsky suffers an injury. "He's played in some big games in his career and proved that he can be a good goaltender at this level," Richards said. ". If something happens and he has to go in, he's keeping himself ready."

Michael Leighton has been recalled by the Flyers.
It's a bit of an odd move for the Flyers, who have more pressing needs than their back-up goalie, as Brian Boucher will be sent back to the AHL. Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily news wonders if coach Peter Laviolette would be bold enough to start Boucher against the Sabres on Friday. A loss could put them in 14th place in the East. The 31-year-old was coming off an injury to his finger and has a 1-1-0 record with a 2.02 goals-against average and .933 save percentage on the AHL season. In his only start in the NHL this year, he gave up five goals on 26 shots.

Michael Leighton has been placed on waivers by Philadelphia.
He had been sidelined with a finger injury and his appearance on waivers suggests he is healthy now and that the Flyers want to stick with Brian Boucher as their backup goalie.

The Philadelphia Flyers placed netminder Michael Leighton on the injured reserve on Sunday.
The journeyman netminder is expected to miss 7-10 days with an upper-body injury. It isn't a major loss for a Philadelphia team that leans heavily on Ilya Bryzgalov; they'll turn to experienced backup Brian Boucher in Leighton's absence.
