And with four points through seven games to start the campaign, Dumba is well on his way to a breakout campaign. He owns oodles of fantasy upside and warrants ownership in the majority of leagues.

Dumba was almost scratched from Thursday's game due to poor play, but instead has had higher than normal ice time and hsa been a plus-1 with two assists in his last three games.

Dumba was expected to be scratched Thursday, but ended up playing in place of Marco Scandella (illness) and notched an assist in a 3-2 win over Toronto.

For a guy who was supposed to watch from the press box, he sure played a lot, finishing second on the Wild with 23:11 of ice time -- almost five minutes more than his season average. Dumba didn't manage a shot on goal, but played a defensively responsible game, nailed the leafs' Nazem Kadri with a slap shot and ultimately got on the scoresheet, which should help him secure his lineup spot moving forward. Consistency will be the key, though.

Dumba will be a healthy scratch for Thursday's game against Toronto. "Dumba is going to be a really good player. And he's a good player right now. He's trying to do too much right now. We just want him to calm it down and play his game," head coach Bruce Boudreau told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

This isn't a good sign for Dumba's fantasy value as he had issues in the past staying in the lineup as he'd land in the coach's doghouse for defenses lapses. It looks like that may not change under new head coach Bruce Boudreau. Mike Reilly will be active as a result.

After two games, Dumba is getting slightly more ice time than last season (18:41 vs. 16:50) and his big shot continues to significant time on the power play. Dumba's lapses on defenses would reduce his place time for stretches last season, so we'll have to see if he can avoid new head coach Bruce Boudreau.

Dumba signed a two-year, $5.1 million contract with the Wild on Thursday.

Dumba was a solid contributor from the blueline for the Wild in 2015-16, setting career highs in goals (10), assists (11) and shots on goal (152). The 22-year-old defender is expected to man the point on Minnesota's top power-play unit next season, bolstering his fantasy value in all formats. The 2012 first-round pick will be a nice depth option in fantasy leagues in 2016-17.

At the time, the Wild were rolling and the goal put them up 2-0, but things weren't destined to stay that way. They've been struggling, which has in turn impacted Dumba's rating -- he's gone minus-7 in the last 10 games. However, with three points in two games coming out of the break, he's been a bright spot, perhaps for the first time all year.

Even one point would have been a moral victory for Dumba after 14 consecutive games off the scoresheet, including all of January. This was, in fact, the 21-year-old's very first multi-point effort of the season. Last year's returns were limited (eight goals and eight assists through 58 games), but Dumba flashed plenty of promise and looked like he was building toward a major breakout; unfortunately, he's shown barely any improvement his year. It's nice that he still enjoys a power-play role, but the majority of Dumba's fantasy value comes in keeper leagues, where he still has some long-term appeal as 2012's No. 7 overall pick.
