Marc Staal is questionable for Saturday's game against the Canadiens as he has the flu. He did not participate in the optional skate Saturday morning and is back at the team's hotel trying to overcome a flu bug. If you have a reasonable alternative for Staal, we would insert him for Saturday night's contest.

Marc Staal participated in the Operation Hat Trick charity game at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night. "It's frustrating," said Staal referring to the ongoing labor dispute. "We should be on the ice. We should be playing. It's unfortunate we're not. I think at some point both sides will figure out a way to get it done, but it's been a roller-coaster ride." Team New York won the game 10-6 against Team Philadelphia/New Jersey.

Marc Staal recorded his third goal of the postseason in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to New Jersey in Game 2. Rookie Chris Kreider had the Rangers' other marker in the defeat, while Brad Richards, Daniel Girardi, Anton Stralman and Artem Anisimov added an assist apiece. Team captain Ryan Callahan was credited with five hits in the match, but he failed to record a point in his fourth straight game and he hasn't found the back of the net in his last six.

Marc Staal netted the game-winning goal in overtime as the New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Monday night in Game 5 of their second-round series. What a whirlwind finish for the Blueshirts, and they need to thank Joel Ward, who received a double-minor for high sticking with 22 seconds left, for their comeback. Down 2-1 with time winding down, it looked like the Rangers would be playing a do-or-die game in Washington with the series in the Caps' favor. Instead, the Rangers tied the game with seven seconds left in regulation on a Brad Richards power-play goal and Staal won it 1:35 into overtime on the second-half of the high-sticking double-minor. Staal also had an assist, while Anton Stralman scored the other marker. Derek Stepan, Ryan Callahan and Michael Del Zotto had the other assists. New York is one win away from advancing into the Eastern Conference finals.

Marc Staal scored a goal in the New York Rangers' 2-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators in Game 7 on Thursday. Staal was limited to 46 contests in the regular season due to a concussion and he didn't do a lot offensively even when he was healthy. However, he was a big contributor for the Rangers on Thursday and is now on a modest two-game point streak. He should be regarded as an X-factor going into their second round series against the Washington Capitals.

Slowly but surely Marc Staal is beginning to round into form. After missing almost the entire first half of the season while recovering from a concussion, Staal's ice time was limited in his first three games back in the Ranger lineup. However, look for coach John Tortorella to start playing the talented rearguard more in the coming games. In fact, Staal has already seen his ice time increase. He played 15 minutes in Friday's game against Pittsburgh after being limited to approximately 12 minutes in his first two contests back.

Marc Staal was on the ice for 12:51 minutes in his second contest since returning from a concussion. Staal didn't play in the Rangers' first 36 games because of the injury. Staal feels up to playing for a second straight night on Friday, but the Rangers should be counted on to significantly limit his playing time again.
