Marc Staal (concussion) could be out be significantly longer than the first two games of the season. GM Glen Sather told the on-site New York Post Wednesday morning that Staal might be out for a month. Concussions are tricky to set a timetable for and until he can skate without suffering headaches he will not return. Staal didn't take to the ice on Tuesday and TSN's Bob McKenzie said the defenseman may have shut down his rehab for now while seeking more medical opinions. We'll keep you posted.

Marc Staal (concussion) will not travel to Europe to meet up with the New York Rangers. That means that Staal will miss the New York Rangers' first two regular season games. Staal isn't one of the league's most valuable defensemen from a fantasy perspective, but the Rangers will miss his defensive and all-around contributions as they start the season.

Marc Staal (concussion) will be practicing again for the Rangers on Saturday. There are many rumors circulating that Staal will join the team in Europe, and this is definitely a solid sign. For today he is practicing, which will give the Rangers a more clear definition of his status.

Marc Staal's current headaches are related to the concussion he sustained in February. Staal had a number of tests to make sure his headaches weren't being caused by a different issue. That being said, an MRI on his neck did reveal pressure on his nerves. He had a cortisone shot as a result and he was kept off the ice for 48 hours following it. Staal practiced with the AHL Connecticut Whale on Friday.

Marc Staal (head) will participate in the AHL Connecticut Whale's practice on Friday. The Rangers are in Europe and Staal didn't travel with the team due to his injury. Staal is experiencing headaches, which might be related to the concussion he sustained in February. At this point, it would be surprising if Staal participated in the Rangers' season opener.

According to Rangers GM Glen Sather, while it's possible that Marc Staal has a concussion, that might not be the reason for his headaches. "We think we've got a handle on it now so we're going to know in the next couple of days exactly," Sather said. "I'm saying is I'm not exactly sure. I've heard that it may not be (a concussion) but it's such a fine area of trying to define what's causing the problem." Staal had a concussion in February and he won't fly with the Rangers to Europe on Monday due to his headaches. However, Sather said it's possible that Staal is dealing with a slipped disc or migraines. He's also left the door open for Staal to meet up with his teammates in Europe on Wednesday or Thursday. Stay tuned.

Marc Staal (concussion) won't travel with his teammates when they head to Europe after Monday night's preseason game at Philadelphia. "I'll have an update in four or five days," coach John Tortorella said. "We're going to try and get him on the trip. Once he feels better and we feel like he can get into all the stuff we want him to do for the regular season, he'll come out." The Rangers are hoping that Staal will be able to join the team at a later date, but there are doubts that he will be ready for the regular-season opener due to post-concussion headaches.

Marc Staal (concussion) might not fly with the New York Rangers when they leave for Europe on Monday. Staal could still head to Europe at a latter date and still participate in the season opener, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he will. Staal is like many players who have dealt with concussions in the sense that it's hard to accurately gauge how much time they might miss. The good news is he started skating on Tuesday, but he still hasn't been cleared for contact. Rangers coach John Tortorella said that Staal is "finishing up a number of different things with some specialists. Tests, trying to help things out." We'll keep you posted.

Marc Staal isn't sure if he will be ready for the regular season opener because of the post-concussion headaches he has been suffering from. "As soon as I can get a stretch in where I'm not getting headaches after workouts or have a day like [Monday] after three hard days, I'll start playing games," said Staal on Tuesday. "Hopefully, obviously, that's sooner rather than later." The Rangers defender would prefer to get into a preseason contest prior to the season starting, but there's a chance that he could miss all seven exhibition games. He returned to the ice on Tuesday, but is being held out of contact. Stay tuned for updates.
