Morrissey was recalled from the Jets' AHL Manitoba affiliate Friday, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Morrissey struggled offensively to begin the 2015-16 campaign, tallying just six points over the first 28 games with the club. However, he broke out of that slump to add 16 points in the next 28 contests. As a result of his recent play, the 20-year-old, former 13th overall pick will finally receive his first taste of the NHL. It's unclear how much action the youngster will see with the club, but he's likely an insurance policy for Saturday's game in case Jacob Trouba (undisclosed) ends up missing. Given Morrissey's offensive skill set, he may be an intriguing option in daily formats at near minimum cost.

Morrissey had a goal and an assist in AHL Manitoba's 4-3 win over Iowa on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Known for his offensive skills and puck-moving ability, Morrissey has just two goals and six points in 28 games this season. This comes on the heels of Morrissey racking up nine points in just 20 AHL playoff games last year. Morrissey gets a bit of a pass considering it is his first full professional season, but he has far too much ability to be producing so little. His stock as a top prospect is going to take a hit if he doesn't begin to turn his game around.

Morrissey remains in contention for an Opening Night roster spot with the Jets, Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal reports.
The 2013 first-rounder paired up with Jacob Trouba in Monday's exhibition against the Oilers, providing Jets fans with a glimpse of their future top pairing. Morrissey didn't do much in his 17:49 of ice time Monday (minus-2, one hit, one block) and is generally expected to head back to his junior team at the end of camp, but he's probably not far away from making an impact in the NHL.

Josh Morrissey has been cut from the Winnipeg Jets' training camp roster.
Morrissey will report to the WHL Prince Albert Raiders. He was taken with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, so it goes without saying that he's a highly regarded prospect. That being said, he went into training camp with the knowledge that it would be tough for him to crack the Jets' opening game roster. He had 47 points and 91 penalty minutes in 70 WHL games last season.

Josh Morrissey understands that he's likely to be returned to his junior team in the WHL, but he has enjoyed a strong camp.
"I came in just like I'm here to show my best and make the team. Obviously, it's pretty difficult to do as an 18-year-old player," he said. "But when I'm here on the ice or in the weight room that has to be my attitude and my mentality." He wanted to be matched against Alex Ovechkin in Saturday's exhibition game to test and push himself. It's that kind of drive that will get him in the NHL shortly and he has plenty of potential to be successful when he does.
