Morrissey could find himself in line for extra shifts in the short term, making him worth adding in deeper fantasy pools.

After all, the 21-year-old defenseman has excellent pedigree and a track record of offensive success at the lower levels. Still, he's more of a keeper/dynasty target for now.

Morrissey is filling the role expected by the team, despite failing to record more than two assists in his last 14 outings.

Considering he had just one NHL game under his belt prior to this season, Morrissey was unlikely to be relied upon to contribute offensively. Instead, the team is utilizing the 21-year-old in a defensive role that frees up partner Dustin Byfuglien to produce from the blue line. The bulk of Morrissey's ice time comes at even strength, yet he continues to log significant minutes (18:35 per night). Perhaps he will start scoring more in the future, but it is unlikely to occur this year, which appears to be just fine with the Jets.

Morrissey not only had a strong training camp in which he tallied three helpers and a plus-2 rating, but is also benefiting from Jacob Trouba's contract dispute. Unless Trouba re-signs, the 21-year-old Morrissey is slotted in alongside Dustin Byfuglien against the Hurricanes on Thursday. Selected 13th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, Morrissey appears set to have a breakout year.
