Allen will be in net for the Blues on Thursday against the Ducks, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Allen has been a decent backup for Brian Elliot so far this season, appearing in two games, posting a 1-1-0 record and a .915 save percentage. The Blues may just be giving Elliot a day off so expect Allen to continue to be the backup for at least the near future.

Allen saved 19 of 22 shots in Thursday's loss to the Canucks. This was not nearly as impressive an effort as Allen's first start of the year, in which he held the Coyotes to just one goal. Brian Elliott has been fairly unimpeachable between the pipes for St. Louis so far this year, and it looks likely that Elliott will continue handling the majority of the starts for now.

Coach Ken Hitchcock announced after Tuesday's practice that Allen would be in the net Thursday versus the Canucks, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Allen performed superbly in his first start Saturday against the Coyotes, claiming the win after stopping 24 of 25 shots. The outing was impressive enough to earn him his second nod in three games, though Brian Elliott still looks like Option 1A in goal for the Blues.

Allen stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced for his first win of the season Saturday against Arizona. A great season-debut from Allen, who got loads of offensive support in the blowout victory. Allen will continue to split starts with Brian Elliott this season, but if the 24-year-old get hot, he could just runaway with the starting gig. Allen is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Allen is set to make his season debut in the net Saturday against the Coyotes, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Coach Ken Hitchcock hasn't given much insight into what portion of the goalie workload he plans on giving Allen this season, but he should be a serviceable fantasy option nearly any time he starts. The Blues boast one of the better collections at both forward and defense, which should put Allen in position to come away with a win on his ledger more often than not.

Allen stopped 14 of 15 Minnesota shots in a 4-1 victory Thursday. Allen wasn't tested very seriously in this one - he didn't face his first shot until more than nine minutes into the game. He seems to be tuning his games well for the start of the regular season when he will split starts with Brian Elliott.

Allen is lined up to start Thursday's pre-season game against Minnesota, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Allen and nominal starter Brian Elliott are alternating starts so far in the pre-season, a pattern that is likely to hold into the regular season the Blues appear poised to split their starts pretty evenly. As the rookie, Allen is likely to end up on the short end of the split, but his status as a legit top prospect (and Elliott's historical streakiness) could play into how the starts get divided up as the year goes on.

Allen is poised to enter the upcoming season as the Blues' No. 2 goalie, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports. Coach Ken Hitchcock has already appointed Brian Elliott for the opening night start in the net, but Allen's standing as one of the best goalie prospects in hockey should make him one of the league's more-used backups, particularly with Elliott having never entered a season as a No. 1 goalie. The 24-year-old Allen earned AHL Goalie of the Year honors in 2013-14 while playing for AHL Chicago, where he went 33-16-0 with a 2.03 GAA and .927 save percentage. His numbers were predictably less impressive in a 15-game cameo with the Blues in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign, but he's developed significantly since then and should make for a good spot start option most any time he's guaranteed to be in the net.

Jake Allen's tenure in the AHL came to an end when the Chicago Wolves were eliminated from the playoffs last week. "I've worked hard and had some bumps and bruises, but I think I proved myself this year," said Allen, who has a one-way contract next season and is expected to stay with the Blues. "I know I'm ready for that next step. I know it's going to be a challenge. I'm really looking forward to (training camp in) September." Allen didn't have a good series against the Toronto Marlies in the second round of the AHL postseason, but his 33 wins, 2.03 goals-against average, .928 save percentage and seven shutouts in 52 games this past campaign led all netminders during the regular season. If the Blues retain Ryan Miller then Allen will back him up in 2014-15. If St. Louis re-signs Brian Elliott and Miller walks then Allen could end up competing for starts.

Blues GM Doug Armstrong said Jake Allen will play in St. Louis next season. Allen is expected to start the season as the Blues' backup goaltender. The question is who the starter will be. Despite his solid, but less than ideal performance in the playoffs, the Blues are likely to attempt to re-sign Ryan Miller. Brian Elliott's tenure might be over with the Blues though as he was unable to establish himself as the team's starter despite some strong numbers as the number two guy.
