Erik Johnson (head) will miss at least three more games. Johnson will not travel with the Avalanche for their upcoming games on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. He remains out indefinitely with what might be a concussion.

There has been no word of late in regards to the head injury suffered by Erik Johnson. Johnson was injured on Feb. 11 when hit by Martin Hanzal. The Avs top blueliner has yet to return to practice and he may have suffered a concussion although that has not been confirmed. Stay tuned but consider Johnson out indefinitely for now.

Colorado coach Joe Sacco reported after practice on Wednesday that defenseman Erik Johnson is out indefinitely with a head injury. He won't travel with the Avalanche to Minnesota for the start of the team's two-game road trip Thursday. Johnson was injured in the third period of Monday's game versus Phoenix on a hit from Martin Hanzal and he was not able to return. It's already been a tough season for Colorado with key members of their forward group unavailable and now they've lost their most versatile defenseman.

The Colorado Avalanche are the only team in the NHL without a goal from their defensemen. The Avs have only seven points from their rearguards and that is bad news for a Colorado team that is struggling to win. The dealt Kevin Shattenkirk in 2011 for Erik Johnson in a larger deal with the Blues but they really miss Shattenkirk's offensive flair while Johnson has struggled in a Colorado uniform. Ryan Wilson is the top point getter with three points in eight games but is out indefinitely with am ankle injury while Johnson has one assist in 10 games.

It's just great to be talking about and actually playing the game again." Johnson didn't play during the lockout and will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2011-12 campaign. He probably will have a better season, but don't be surprise if he struggles a bit early on.

The Avalanche re-signed restricted free agent Erik Johnson to a four-year, $15 million deal. The blueliner had 26 points this past season, but as a former number-one pick, has seen his offensive production stall a bit over the past few seasons. Still, the $3.75 million cap hit isn't all that bad for a 24-year-old with Johnson's promise. He made $3 million in the 2011-12 campaign. "Since Erik's arrival in Colorado, he has provided stability, size and an offensive presence to our blueline," said general manager Greg Sherman.ÿ "At only 24 years of age, we believe that Erik will continue to grow his game and we are thrilled to have him under contract."
