Erik Johnson needed help skating off the ice after being hit in the foot by a puck during Wednesday's practice. Johnson has a goal and three points in nine games this season. He is still being evaluated, but Avalanche coach Patrick Roy doesn't think it will turn out to be anything major.

Erik Johnson scored a power play goal as the Avalanche lost to the Red Wings 4-2 Thurday night. It was Johnson's first goal and his second point of the season plus two rating. Johnson went end-to-end to score his first goal in 58 games, since Feb. 17, 2012. He skated through the Detroit defense, moved into the right circle and ripped a shot that went under Jonas Gustavsson's right arm. Gabriel Landeskog also scored for the Avalanche.

Avalanche coach Patrick Roy wants to give Erik Johnson a clean slate this season. As the first overall pick in the 2006 draft, Johnson has yet to live up to expectations at the NHL level. "I had a great conversation with Erik. Honestly, I'm confident he's going to have a really good year," said Roy. "The thing is, we're going to work really hard with him to 'don't live in the past.' It's now. Don't worry about the 'first overall' thing. Don't worry where people say 'first overall pick' - it's over. We want you to be who you are. Erik needs to be Erik Johnson. Go hard, go out there and play his game and be himself. That's what I want to see from him." Roy praised Johnson for having offensive skills, but the 25-year-old defenseman contributed no goals and just four assists in 31 games last year and the season before that he recorded 26 points in 73 contests. It will be interesting to see if Roy's new approach will help Johnson make positive strides this season, but going into draft day he's still very risky to consider picking up.

Colorado defenseman Erik Johnson ended the season without recording a goal. The former first overall pick has been a constant disappointment at the offensive end of the rink and recorded a measly four assists in 31 contests this year. He's likely off most radars as a buy-low candidate next year, with good reason.

Defenseman Erik Johnson, who will miss his sixth consecutive NHL game tonight with a wrist injury, has been added to the American squad for the upcoming world championship tournament that will be played in Finland and Sweden. Johnson joins a number of his Colorado teammates on the USA team, including forward Aaron Palushaj, center Paul Stastny, defenseman Matt Hunwick and coaches Joe Sacco (head) and Tim Army (assistant).

Do not expect to see Erik Johnson (wrist) in the lineup Tuesday. Johnson has been out of the lineup since April 12 and has missed the last four games. It is looking more and more that he will be out for the season but with only four assists in 30 games in 2013, he really should not be in your lineup. Johnson's stock has fallen mightily in the last couple of years, especially considering he was drafted first overall in 2006.

Erik Johnson (wrist) isn't expected to play Friday. Johnson is day-to-day, but obviously with so time remaining in the regular season, it's possible that he's already played in his last game of this campaign. He has just four points in 30 games this season.
