Erik Johnson suffered a wrist injury on Thursday and exited the contest as a result. Johnson will be re-evaluated on Friday. He has four assists in 30 games this season.

The hard skate is a strong sign for Johnson, who should get medical clearance as long as he experienced no side-effects after practice. It was an optional practice for the Avs but it was good for Johnson who skated hard and could be ready to return to action as early as Tuesday. It has been a disappointing season thus far for Johnson who was taken first overall in 2006 by the Blues before being traded to Colorado in Feb. 2011. He signed a four-year extension in the off-season but has only one assist in 11 games thus far this season.

Erik Johnson will not suit up for the Avalanche when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets Sunday. Johnson could be nearing a return from a concussion as he'll join his teammates for their three-game road trip, but head injuries are always unpredictable so we wouldn't count on the defenseman until his return has been confirmed.

Erik Johnson skated Wednesday for the first time since suffering a concussion Feb. 11. Coach Joe Sacco said the brief skate is an "encouraging" sign. It's tough to say when we can expect him to rejoin the lineup, but getting on the ice is certainly very good to see. Next step will be seeing how he feels on Thursday. Johnson has an assist in 11 games this season.
