Dustin Penner will sit out Thursday's game versus Edmonton as a healthy scratch.
"It's on me," he said. "And I've gotta play better." The Kings have started the season with a 0-2 record and Penner has no points, three shots, four penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating during that time.

Before bringing back Dustin Penner, the Kings wanted to assure themselves he'd be fully committed like he was toward the end of the season.
Penner received a one-year deal partially because he had just 18 points in the regular season. He did get $3.25 million, though, because he was a different player in the playoffs, notching 11 points. It looks as if Penner wants to prove himself to the Kings' brass. "We want to make sure he's committed to the effort we saw the last two months and not the player prior to," general manager Dean Lombardi said. "And he was very good too. [For] Darryl [Sutter], this was, look him in the eye, man to man. There were no punches pulled. To his credit, he could have easily went to the market and maybe came back. But he called that night and said, 'No. I want to stay and I'm going to show you.' He was willing to take a one-year deal."

Dustin Penner's newly inked one-year deal is reportedly worth $3.25 million.
That represents a significant pay cut from his previous annual salary of $4.25 million. Penner had just seven goals and 17 points in 65 regular season games, but he bounced back in the postseason.

Dustin Penner has reportedly re-signed with the Los Angeles Kings.
The financial terms of the deal are known yet, but it is believed to be a one-year contract. Penner had a disastrous regular season, but he went on to record three goals and 11 points in 20 playoff contests. He's a high-risk candidate for the 2012-13 season and we'd recommend taking a wait-and-see approach to him over drafting him in standard fantasy leagues.

The Los Angeles Kings and Dustin Penner are expected to meet in the next few days.
Penner is due to become an unrestricted free agent in one week's time if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement before then. It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Penner would become a UFA at the end of the regular season as he had only seven goals and 17 points but a great playoff in which he potted three goals and 11 points in 20 games and played the style of play expected of him all season, gave him reason to hope that he could re-sign with the Kings. Stay tuned.

Dustin Penner is the first player to win the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks.
Both franchises have only won the Cup once and they did so with Penner as part of their roster. Back in 2007 when the Ducks won it all, Penner was playing in just his first full NHL season. "It was unbelievable run to be able to do it with those guys," Penner said. "Teemu. Nieds. Prongs. Jiggy. Getz. Pears. Everybody there. I probably didn't appreciate it and fully understand it, being my first year and probably thought every year would be like that. Now being able to win it a second time, it makes you really appreciate it. For me, I won't take it for granted ever again." Penner is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He had a disappointing regular season, but his impressive playoff run should offset that to an extent.

Dustin Penner was thrilled to finish a tough season with a Stanley Cup victory on Monday night.
He served as a healthy scratch, went through a messy divorce and failed to produce much offensively during the regular season, but he played a key role in Los Angeles' dominant playoff run en route to his second championship ring. "Tumultuous, with a happy ending," said Penner when he described the 2011-12 campaign. "A Hollywood ending." He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The Los Angeles Kings' attempt to sweep the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup championship series was thwarted with a 3-1 loss Wednesday night, and team star Dustin Penner says a good lesson should be learned by the team and others.
"It's a good lesson for us," Penner said. "And a good lesson for the media and the fans because everybody, I think, was maybe putting the cart [in front] of the horse, to an extent." Los Angeles came close to sweeping New Jersey and filling out the storyline. It was tied, 1-1, in the third period after it finally shook a record-sellout crowd of 18,867 into a frenzy. By the time Ilya Kovalchuk deposited the puck into an empty net to seal it, the silence was a reminder of just how difficult it is to claim the most hallowed trophy in sports.

With a win on Wednesday in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, the KIngs could become one of the most dominating teams in NHL playoff history.
Not only would Los Angeles hoist the Stanley Cup in that instance, it would go 16-2, matching the 1988 Oilers for the best record in the postseason at 16-2. The Kings again have created a 3-0 series lead, and they're the first team to do that since the NHL in 1987 went to a best-of-seven series. "If we win one more game I hope the San Andreas fault can take it," winger Dustin Penner said.
