Line Change: Penner will make his Capitals debut Wednesday. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 3/5/14 2:56 PM
Penner skated on a line with Marcus Johansson and Troy Brouwer in his first practice Penner had 13 goals and 19 assists with a plus-22 in Anaheim. If he is not playing with Alex Ovechkin, he takes a fantasy value hit by leaving the LW alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry.
Trade: The Ducks have traded Dustin Penner to the Capitals for a fo... dailyfaceoff.com Tue 3/4/14 2:56 PM
Penner has recorded 13 goals and 19 assists (32 points) in 49 games with the Ducks this season. The move adds some size to the Capitals forward group. Penner is on a one-year, $2 million US deal.
Injury: Penner (upper-body) is probable to return to the Ducks line... dailyfaceoff.com Sat 1/11/14 2:56 PM
Penner has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury, but appears set to return tonight in Phoenix. Penner has not had a point since December 15, being held off of the scoresheet for seven consecutive games. He is expected to skate on a line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry tonight.
Injury: Penner (upper-body) will not play tonight. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 1/9/14 2:56 PM
Penner will miss his second straight game with an upper-body injury. The Ducks love to shuffle their lines on a game-to-game basis but on Tuesday Matt Beleskey was skating with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Monitor Penner's status prior to Saturday's game in Phoenix.
SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE - 11/24/2013 primepucks.com Sun 11/24/13 9:04 AM
Got my cup of coffee and ready to go.
It's amazing how far the Rangers, Devils and Flyers have come since their dismal starts.
Edmonton has won 3 in a row but they still are buried in the Western Conference.
Detroit leads the league in OTLs. Something I'm sure they are not proud of.
Boston is playing terrific hockey like they always do in November.
What has happened to Carolina's offense this year?
Every Bruin had a SOG except Daniel Paille.
Olli Jokinen had 7 SOG last night. Remember him?
Pavelec plays well in net for Winnipeg except when it's against Chicago, which could be any goalie's problem.
Surprised the Toronto-Washington game was a low-scoring 2-1 shootout type. I was hoping for fireworks.
D-man John Carlson had 7 SOG to lead the Caps. He also had 4:51 PP time, second only to Ovechkin. Mike Green, 3 SOG and only 1:09 on the PP. Is this a changing of the guard in D.C.?
Lupul only had 1 SOG. That's not gonna cut it.
The Caps have lost 3 in a row. I think they will reverse that trend in the next few games.
With 2 goals last night against Montreal, and 6 points in last 3 games, I think it's safe to say that James Neal has recovered from his injury.
Max Pacioretty is back! 5 goals in last 3 games.
David Desharnais is back too. Not as ‘back' as Max, but back.
It appears to me that Bobby Ryan is fitting in quite nicely in Ottawa.
That Detroit-Ottawa game was very physical.
That Flyer team has really woken up.
That's 2 games in a row with 2 goals for Flyer Matt Read.
Did the Moulson-Vanek trade hurt the Islanders' team chemistry?
St. Louis has the best goal differential in the NHL so far at +29. Huge, Jerry, huge.
The Predators got a taste of their own medicine from the Rangers last night, being shutout 2-0.
Who is this Cam Talbot anyway?
Dustin Penner just loves playing with Anaheim.
Colonel Klinkhammer. -2. Tsk, tsk.
Bobby Lou had it going last night against the Hawks, but let in 2 goals in 9 seconds in the 3ed period and that was the end of that.
Brodeur had another strong outing for the Devils.
It was the "All-Brittle" squad involved in the Sharks 2-1 victory over the Devils. Brent Burns and Martin Havlat chipped in with assists. Hurry, before they get hurt again.
Enjoy your week and have a Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating!
DAILY PRIME - NOVEMBER 21, 2013: PENGUINS ROLL OVER CAPS primepucks.com Thu 11/21/13 5:30 AM
With Sidney Crosby considered by most as the best fantasy forward in the NHL, it's the dynamic duo of Evgeni Malkin and James Neal that makes this offense downright unstoppable. Neal scored a goal and an assist in the 4-0 shutout win of their arch-rivals Washington, while Malkin chipped in with two assists. Since returning from injury, Neal has rewarded his patient fantasy owners with 5 points in 6 games. He was well worth the wait as he been one of the premier left wingers in the game since being traded to Pittsburgh. In 120 career games with the Penguins, he has shown unbelievable chemistry with Malkin by recorded 61 goals and 117 points. As for the gifted Russian, with all the talk that he been struggling to score goals, he still has 22 points in 22 games. It's a foregone conclusion that the duo will light it up moving forward, so enjoy the ride if you own either of them.... Anymore questions on Marc-Andre Fleury's fantasy value during the regular season? Playoffs don't count for fantasy owners. With his 18-save shutout last night, his numbers now stand at 13-6, with a 1.90 GAA and .924 SP. Elite for sure.... With a goal and an assist, defenseman Paul Martin has chipped in with 9 points in 20 games. He plays a boat-load of minutes while getting his fair share of power-play time, so he does hold decent value as a No. 3-4 fantasy option on defense.
More Fantasy Game Notes: What's up with Mikko Koivu? Another scorching performance, consisting of the game-winning goal and two assists at Ottawa, gives him 20 points in 23 games. A slow start has been erased by his streaky play as of late, so make sure the Finn is starting in your lineups. He has been clicking with Zach Parise big-time.... With two more assists and 15 points in 17 games, Dustin Penner has been living up to the hype created with playing on Anaheim's top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Ride him while he is hot, but the talented winger will go cold in a hurry. It's just a matter of time..

ADD'EM: THE PENNER MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD primepucks.com Mon 11/11/13 9:49 AM
Dustin Penner-Anaheim, LW (Owned in 64.8% of ESPN leagues)
Back on the Anaheim top line with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, the 31-year old is enjoying an offensive renaissance with 7 points (1G/6A) in the last six games. Usually known for his streaky goal-scoring, Penner has been an assist-machine while playing with the big boys. We don't expect his scoring pace to last long-term with his limited value on the power-play, but he is worth a look as a fifth/sixth forward option while he is hot.
Clarke MacArthur- Ottawa, LW (Owned in 77.1% of ESPN leagues)
The ex-Leaf forward has found life in Ottawa not too shabby, as he has fit in nicely on the second line with Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris. This trio is providing the bulk of the offense for the Senators these days, with MacArthur collecting 7 points (4G/3A) in the last 6 games. The 28-year old did exhibit a scoring touch for Toronto, racking up two straight 20+ goal seasons, including a career-high 62 points in ‘10/11. He is definitely worth a roll of the dice in all fantasy formats.
Marcus Johansson- Washington, LW (Owned in 64.9% of ESPN leagues)
The talented forward finds himself on this list way too frequently, but he should be owned in all fantasy leagues for the simple reason that he plays with Alexander Ovechkin. With "Ovie" back in the lineup, Johansson has recorded five points in the last four games. In the previous four, he went scoreless as he was dropped to the second line in Ovechkin's absence. This one is pretty straightforward. Scoop him up immediately if you still can.
Philip Larsen- Edmonton, D (Owned in 2.7% of ESPN leagues)
This might be a shot in the dark, but the young Danish defender has manned Edmonton's top power-play with Justin Schultz out with a groin injury. With three assists last night and five points in five games overall, the 23-year old is showing his offensive upside. However, his fantasy value is strictly short-term as the return of Schultz would limit Larson's time on the man-advantage. Check out the injury updates on Schultz, because Larson maybe worth a flier for a week or two.
Ilya Bryzgalov- Edmonton, G ( (Owned in 3.8% of ESPN leagues)
The Edmonton Oilers have signed the much-maligned goaltender to a one-year deal, making a statement that Devan Dubnyk's status as the no. 1 goalie is iffy at best. While Bryzgalov is known for his off-beat antics, he has been a quite accomplished goaltender in the NHL and now has a chance to partially erase the memories of not ...
DAILY PRIME NOVEMBER 9, 2013: SCHNEIDER BLUES, LITTLE IS BIG, HUDLE... primepucks.com Sat 11/9/13 8:21 AM
One has to feel sorry for Cory Schneider who has gone from being the top goalie on the Stanley Cup contending Canucks last season to the backup on the lowly Devils. Hard to have your fantasy value fall more than that. But smart poolies will realize that Martin Brodeur will likely retire soon, that General Manager Lou Lamorello will rebuild the Devils, and Schneider will be the starter. Unfortunately, none of this is going to happen this year, but keep Schneider in your mind for the future. He is an excellent goaltender who went 17-9-4 last year with the Canucks with a 2.11 goals against average a .927 save percentage and 5 shutouts. Heck even with the Devils his goals against this year is only 2.09. New Jersey loses to Toronto 2-1 in a shootout, as Maple Leaf forward James van Riemsdyk scored the game winner in the shootout. Phil Kessel scored the only goal in regulation for Toronto, and he has 10 goals and 19 points on the season.
Little is big:
Winnipeg forward Bryan Little had 2 goals last night, including the game winner as Winnipeg thrashed Nashville 5-0. We are big supporters of Little who now has 10 goals on the season and 15 points in 18 games. Grab him if you can. Young Winnipeg forward Eric Tangradi got his first goal of the season. Nice to see that. He will be fantasy relevant one day, but not for a few more years. Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec got the shutout with 41 saves. Pavelec has been hot and cold this season, as his 5-7-2 record with a 2.86 goals against and a .911 save percentage would indicate. Not a big fan. Nashville has a real problem in goal with Pekka Rinne out for a while. Backup goaltender Carter Hutton got thrashed last night giving up 3 goals on 8 only shots. His 3.32 goals against and .898 save percentage in 7 games played is not good. Stay away from Predator goalies until Rinne returns.
Love the Irish:
Colorado forward Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and an assist in last night's 4-2 win over Calgary. O'Reilly now has 6 goals and 11 points on the season. We sort of like him as a 6th forward option. Future superstar Matt Duchene had a goal as well for Colorado, his 11th of the season. This guy has a 100 point season written all over him. But it will be a year or two. Calgary's Jiri Hudler is suprisingly having a big year with 19 points in 17 games played. The left wing has never scored like this before, but he seems to have found a home in Calgary. Pick him up if you can. He had 2:39 in power play time last night ...
