Kunitz was held pointless for the eighth time in 10 games Saturday. He finished plus-2 with three hits. In a move backed by coach Mike Johnston, Kunitz was moved off of Sidney Crosby's line. Although Crosby is a big proponent of Kunitz skating with him, the team likely needed a change. Kunitz played left wing with Evgeni Malkin and Blake Comeau, so it's not as if the veteran was demoted to a grinding line. Kunitz, who has scored 15 goals and 35 points in 51 games, is pointing at his lowest rate since his first full season in Pittsburgh back in 2009-10.

Kunitz tallied three assists Friday for the first time since Feb. 11, 2011 against Winnipeg. "Chris Kunitz had one of the best games I've seen him play in a long time," Pens coach Mike Johnston told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "He was skating and making plays." The top line of Kunitz, Sidney Crosby and David Perron combined for eight points in a 4-0 win over Calgary on Friday. At 35, Kunitz may have lost step but he's playing his best hockey of the year right now. Keep in mind that it appears that he's the odd man out on Pittsburgh's top power-play unit when the team is healthy, though health has never been the team's strong suit.

Kunitz's late third-period goal gave Pittsburgh a regulation tie in a game it would go on to win in overtime Friday. Despite uneven production in 2014-15, Kunitz ranks second on the team with 15 goals and is tied with Evgeni Malkin for the team lead in power-play goals with eight. He registered only two shots on goal and one hit against the Devils, but with his six points (3G, 3A) in his last eight tilts.

Kunitz potted his first short-handed goal of the season -- and fifth in 11 NHL seasons -- Tuesday against Philadelphia. The left winger might not be the player he was a couple years ago, but he does have five goals and nine points in his last 12 games. He's also back seeing consistent time with Sidney Crosby, though that could change when Patric Hornqvist returns from IR in a couple weeks.

Kunitz snapped a three-game scoreless slump with a power-play goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over the Wild. Although this wasn't sorely needed production for the Pens, since they put up seven goals Tuesday, it's good to see Kunitz back on the board. The Pittsburgh offense generated just five goals over his three-game skid.

After a demotion to the team's third line in late December, coach Mike Johnston has returned Kunitz to the left wing spot next to Sidney Crosby in recent games. Although he failed to register a point in Pittsburgh's 2-1 OT win Saturday, Kunitz played fairly well, setting up Crosby nicely for a one-timer. The 35-year-old has probably lost a step but is set to continue seeing opportunities with Crosby. It's possible that he moves to the Pens' second line when Patric Hornqvist returns, but Hornqvist isn't due back anytime soon.

Kunitz skated on Pittsburgh's third line Saturday with Brandon Sutter and Beau Bennett, going pointless with two shots and a minus-1 rating. Despite the demotion, Kunitz has looked re-energized lately, scoring five points and registering 16 hits in his last six games. He still has a spot on the team's top power-play unit and could end up back with Sidney Crosby when Steve Downie cools off, gets hurt or suspended.

Kunitz captured his 11th goal of the season and added an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Hurricanes. It hasn't taken Kunitz long to round into form after coming off injured reserve Dec. 20. In his six games since returning from the broken foot, the winger has posted two goals, two assists and a plus-3 rating.

Kunitz converted a back-handed breakaway shot for his 10th goal of the season and second in his last 15 contests Friday in Tampa Bay. He was all alone after coming out of the penalty box and beat rookie tender Andrei Vasilevskiy. Kunitz has a respectable 21 points in 26 games but hasn't looked good since October. Perhaps Tuesday's pretty goal can put him back on track.

Despite hitting a post with one shot attempt, Kunitz went pointless in his return from a fractured foot Saturday against the Panthers. He skated almost 20 minutes (19:18 TOI), recording two PIM, two hits, one block and one shot on goal. Kunitz looked rusty at times but fantasy owners will likely want to put him back in their lineups -- now that he's healthy -- for Week 12.
