Kunitz has been diagnosed with a light fracture in his foot and is likely to miss a couple of weeks, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
There was some speculation that Kunitz might have been dealing with the rumored illness that threatened to sideline Sidney Crosby and Robert Bortuzzo on Tuesday, but he's apparently dealing with a more severe concern. More information regarding how the injury was sustained along with a firmer timetable should become available in the coming days, but fantasy owners should plan for a several-game absence. The winger, who had 20 points in 23 games, was replaced on the Sidney Crosby line by Nick Spaling on Tuesday.

Kunitz (undisclosed) will not play Tuesday against New Jersey, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
There was no immediate word as to why Kunitz won't be in the lineup Tuesday. He took part in the morning skate and coach Mike Johnston gave no indication after practice that he would sit out.

Kunitz ended an 11-game goalless drought Saturday, scoring his ninth goal of the season in a 3-2 win over Carolina.
After the contest, coach Mike Johnston said that Kunitz played his best game in "a couple weeks." He registered five shots on goal -- his highest total since Oct. 16 (the third game of the season). The forward also dished out five hits and finished plus-2 against the Canes.

Kunitz collected just his third point (an assist) in nine games for the Pens on Friday.
He failed to register a hit for only the second time in 22 games. Kunitz started strongly last year and then tailed off after the Olympics. Most likely the 35-year-old is simply slumping now or playing with a minor injury, but fantasy owners might want to keep in mind his sluggish finishes as the season progresses.

Kunitz was held pointless Monday and has picked up only three points (all assists) in his last nine games.
After starting the year with its power play on fire, Pittsburgh has scored just four goals in 23 attempts over the past nine games -- which has coincided with Kunitz's struggles. The team shuffled Kunitz to its second line with Evgeni Malkin on Monday, but to no avail. Because the Pens beat Boston, the feisty forward -- who's contributed with 22 hits during his slump -- will likely skate with Malkin again on Wednesday.

Kunitz tallied two assists and finished with a plus-3 rating Saturday in Buffalo.
Kunitz rode shotgun to Kris Letang and Patric Hornqvist's goals Saturday, coming away with his 15th and 16th points of the season. The left winger now has five goals and 10 points in his last six contests. He registered a season-low one hit but it's doubtful poolies are complaining.

Kunitz scored two of Pittsburgh's goals -- one on the power play -- and assisted on Kris Letang's man-advantage tally in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Kings.
As has become the norm, Kunitz is potting points at an efficient pace to start the year, with 10 now in nine games. He's steady as they come.

Kunitz scored his third goal Thursday, giving him six points in six games.
Kunitz continues to serve as a core member of the Pens' top power-play unit. In addition to his regular spot with Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist on the No. 1 line, Kunitz has played with Evgeni Malkin on the second line. He's totaled 28 hits, giving fantasy owners a dependable multi-category performer.

Kunitz tallied two power-play points, including a goal and an assist, in a 3-2 loss to the Stars on Thursday.
He also led all players with six shots on goal and seven hits. The Pens' top power-play unit of Kunitz, Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang has helped the team to six goals on 11 opportunities through the first three games. Kunitz is off to another good start, though it's worth noting the forward totaled only 13 points in the final 24 regular-season games of 2013-14.
