Kreider (hand) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Stars, and Rangers coach Alain Vigneault is hoping the winger can return Saturday when the team faces the Capitals at home.

His six goals are way off the pace of last season's 21-goal showing, and he's also quite a bit behind his 46-point pace from 2014-15 as well, so the Rangers are going to need more from the Boston College product if they hope to emerge as a top seed in the East come April.

Kreider scored his fifth goal of the season and had an assist in Friday's loss to the Oilers.

It was just the second goal in 13 games for Kreider, who has dried up offensively of late. The 24-year-old has 14 points in 30 games on the season, but should be lighting the lamp more on the second line with Rick Nash and Kevein Hayes. Look for him to build off his showing Friday and pick up the scoring.

The Massachusetts native also filled the hits (5), shots (3) and PIM (2) categories for fantasy owners that haven't already jumped ship. While the top-six forward has a decent 12 points in 28 games he's still lagging behind last season's career-high pace of 21 goals and 46 points in 80 games.

Kreider is currently riding a six-game point-scoring drought.

It's been a fairly inconsistent season for the winger who is stuck at three goals, 10 points through 24 games played. The 24-year-old Boston native will look to break out of the slump Monday against visiting Carolina. Kreider has five points (one goal) and 23 hits through 11 career games against the Hurricanes.

We're still waiting for the offensive explosion Kreider's always been capable of, but he's muddled along at a similar pace to last year so far. He does, however, have four points in the last four games, and he's sure to get some extra love in the locker room for what he did to defend his teammate Saturday. After Ottawa's Zack Smith got Derek Stepan in the head, Kreider stepped in and fought him, earning a game misconduct (to go with five for fighting and two more for instigating) that kept him out of the game for the end of the second period and much of the third.

Kreider registered a goal and an assist Saturday night, helping the Rangers to a 4-1 win over the Coyotes.

Kreider had gone without a point in four straight games before cashing in Saturday with his first multi-point effort of the young season. Star winger Rick Nash (back) missed the game, so if you're a Kreider owner in fantasy pools, you have to be encouraged by his ability to step up and fill the void. Kreider now has two points and five assists through 14 games, while averaging just over 16 minutes of ice time per game.
