Vancouver Canucks forward Brandon Sutter signed a five-year, $21.875 million contract extension Tuesday, according to the team's official website. Sutter, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last month, will make roughly $3.3 million this season in the final year of a two-year contract. The 26-year-old had 21 goals and 12 assists in 80 games for Pittsburgh last season and is expected to serve as the second-line center for Vancouver. Sutter's strong two-way play will be an asset to a Canucks team that finished 17th in the league in goals allowed last season, while playing with the likes of Alex Burrows and Sven Baertaschi could boost his offensive output after playing mostly in a bottom-six role previously. Sutter will now be with the team until the 2020-21 season and will help bridge the gap to the team's future forward corps, with the Sedin twins and Radim Vrbata now in their mid-30s.

Sutter scored his first goal of the playoffs and had an assist in Saturday's Game 2 win over the Rangers.
It was a great outing for Sutter, who now has three goals in his last three games dating to the regular season. The 26-year-old has six goals in his last 15 playoff games and is a key depth scorer for the Penguins. If Pittsburgh hopes to get past New York in the first round, guys like Sutter will need to step up and make a difference every game.

Sutter scored the team's lone goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
The goal -- which came on the power play -- was Sutter's 19th of the year, bringing him within two of his career high. With Evgeni Malkin returning to the lineup Sunday, Sutter will likely return to a bottom-six role for the rest of the way, restricting his fantasy value to deeper formats.

Sutter (undisclosed) returned to action Sunday against the Sharks, logging two shot attempts and a hit in his 15:35 of ice time.
Sutter suffered an injury late in Saturday's win over the Coyotes that seemed to put him at risk of missing Sunday's tilt, but evidently, the ailment wasn't anything too serious. The center had been enjoying a top-six role of late for the Penguins, but with Evgeni Malkin returning to the lineup Saturday, Sutter will now return to familiar spot on the club's third line.

Sutter exited Saturday's game against the Coyotes in the third period with an injury, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
With only a few minutes left in the match, it appears unlikely that Sutter will return. He's the second player to exit for the Penguins, after defenseman Kris Letang was removed from the game in the second period following a hit into the boards. Sutter should be viewed as day-to-day heading into Sunday's match against the Sharks.

Sutter tallied a power-play goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Coyotes.
The goal came in the second period, when Coyotes netminder Mike Smith accidentally cleared the puck right into Sutter's rump, which richocheted into the net for the score. Sutter has assumed the Pens' No. 2 center role with Evgeni Malkin missing the last four games with a lower-body injury, but it had yet to result in a jolt in production until Saturday.
Sutter had been held without a point in his previous three contests while putting up only four shots on goal, and considering the fluky nature of his tally against the Coyotes, there shouldn't be much optimism regarding his future production.

Sutter opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal and then an even-strength goal Thursday in a 6-4 win over Edmonton.
A relatively rare offensive outburst for Sutter, whose fantasy value remains quite limited except in the category of shorthanded goals -- with four, he's tied with Rick Nash and Tyler Toffoli for the NHL lead.

Sutter assisted on the Pens' lone goal in Sunday's loss to the Blackhawks.Sutter has three points over his last five games, but he's only managed six shot attempts during that time. That minimal output, along with his absence of power-play time, would seem to suggest that Sutter can't be counted on as a consistent source of points.
