Sutter notched his second goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs.
The early returns on new coach Mike Johnston's offensive system have been promising, and Sutter has been one of the many benefactors through two games. However, those two goals have came on just four shot attempts, so until Sutter starts looking for his own offense with greater frequency, he probably won't provide scoring with much consistency.

Sutter could receive a short-term fantasy bump if he centers Pittsburgh's second line with Evgeni Malkin and Pascal Dupuis.
The Penguins may move Malkin from center to wing for Week 1, giving Sutter a chance to move up from the third line. The team wants to keep Malkin's responsibilities to a minimum -- he's practiced a grand total of one time during training camp -- but wants to keep his prodigious talent in the lineup. Pittsburgh also wants to reward Sutter's performance in the 2103-14 playoffs (5G, 2A in 13 games). He's averaged better than a half point per game just once in six NHL seasons and that five years ago. Still, he could provide fantasy owners with sneaky fantasy value early on.

Sutter potted a pair of goals Thursday, including an overtime game-winner against the Wild.
The centerman, who seemingly played with different linemates on a nightly basis in 2013-14, has shown chemistry with Beau Bennett and Steve Downie in the early going. Sutter may not stick with Bennett if the team uses the right winger with Evgeni Malkin, but new coach Mike Johnston has made it a point to play the two together -- even on the penalty kill. Sutter has averaged a half a point only once in his six NHL seasons, but he could offer some fantasy value as a midseason waiver-wire pickup.

Pittsburgh general manager Jim Rutherford says he plans to re-sign restricted free agent Brandon Sutter and isn't worried about it.
"I'm not concerned at all about signing Sutter," Rutherford said. "Honestly, I'm not concerned about any of the restricted guys. At some point, we'll have them signed." Sutter is the biggest name among the Pens' restricted free agents, a list that also includes right winger Nick Spaling and defenseman Simon Despres. The Pens want to sign Sutter to a long-term deal, largely because he was outstanding in the most recent Stanley Cup playoffs, scoring five goals in 13 games and playing top-notch defense.

Brandon Sutter (undisclosed) should be fine for Game 1 of the second round.
Sutter left the Penguins' series-winning game on Monday before it's conclusion. "I'm happy with the way it's gone the last two days," Sutter said. "I'm feeling pretty good. It shouldn't be a problem going forward." Sutter is a solid defensive forward and that's something that Pittsburgh certainly needs.

Brandon Sutter wasn't able to complete Game 6 of Pittsburgh's first round series against Columbus.
Sutter scored a goal early in the second period, but it's believed that he later sustained an injury while blocking a shot. The Penguins' defense has been an ongoing concern and it's one that will be amplified if Sutter isn't healthy in time for the second round.
