Shaw will not face supplemental discipline after getting assessed a match penalty for slew-footing Buffalo's Johann Larsson at the conclusion of Thursday night's game, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Known as an agitator, Shaw plays on the edge and is susceptible to supplemental discipline for such infractions, but he was deemed not have crossed a line and will not miss Saturday's game in Ottawa.

Shaw scored a third-period goal and racked up 10 PIM on a match penalty at the end of Thursday's season-opening win against Buffalo.
EDGE Analysis
He had a good regular-season debut going for the Habs, but then slew-footed Sabres forward Johan Larsson in the final seconds -- a move that could very well earn Shaw a suspension after he already served a three-game ban for a dangerous hit in the preseason. Shaw offers fantasy owners a nice points-hits-PIM combo when he's on the ice, but his willingness to cross the line of what qualifies as appropriate physicality may often draw the Department of Player Safety's ire.

Shaw scored twice in Montreal's 6-1 win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw opened the scoring 1:50 into the first, and lit the lamp again just 1:24 into the second. If preseason success is any indication, the 25-year-old center is fitting in nicely with his new team after playing his first five seasons in Chicago.

Shaw was in the lineup for Tuesday's preseason game against Boston after serving his three-game suspension.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was handed a three-game vacation for a hit from behind on Washington defenseman Connor Hobbs, but is back with the Habs, skating on the team's second line with Tomas Plekanec and Alexander Radulov.

Shaw has been suspended for three preseason games for boarding Washington's Connor Hobbs in Tuesday's preseason contest.
EDGE Analysis
The Canadiens signed Shaw to a six-year, $23.4 million contract this offseason to add some much-needed grit to their lineup, but Tuesday's incident is just another example of the scrappy winger's continual struggle to play his physical brand of hockey without taking unnecessary and often times dangerous penalties. The good news is the scrappy winger will be eligible to return to action for the Habs' penultimate preseason game Oct. 4 against Boston, and presumably won't miss any regular-season action. The bad news is Shaw is a repeat offender, and will likely be handed a longer-than-normal suspension if he gets into trouble with the NHL's Department of Player Safety again this season.

Shaw is scheduled for a hearing Thursday for his boarding penalty in Tuesday's matchup with Washington, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw's physicality got the best of him Tuesday as he picked up 30 PIM in a preseason contest. Regardless of whether or not he is suspended for the hit, this will put the center on the repeat offender list for the entire season, which could serve to lengthen any future bans.

Shaw picked up two major penalties, a 10-minute misconduct and then a game misconduct in Tuesday night's preseason win over Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw's stat line from his first preseason game as a Canadien: 12:27 of ice time, one shot on goal, one hit and 30 minutes in penalties. The Habs acquired Shaw in the offseason to add some grit to the lineup and the former Blackhawk lived up to his reputation. He's slated to skate on the second line with Tomas Plekanec and Alexander Radulov when the season opens.

Shaw agreed to a six-year contract with the Canadiens on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Shaw was acquired on Friday from the Blackhawks. In his 322 regular season games with Chicago, he had 70 goals, 67 assists, and 300 PIM. He will be able to make an immediate impact at his position in 2016 for Montreal.

Shaw, a pending restricted free agent, was tendered a qualifying offer from the Canadiens on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
No surprise here, as Shaw was acquired from Chicago on draft day last Friday. His ability to get under the skin of the opposition should help a Montreal team that really needs to assert itself within that competitive Atlantic Division. Next season will be Shaw's sixth in the NHL. He already has two Stanley Cup wins under his belt, having won it all with the Blackhawks in 2013 and 2015. In 322 career regular-season games -- all with Chicago -- the center has amassed 137 points (70 goals, 67 assists) and 300 PIM.

Shaw was traded to the Canadiens on Friday in exchange for a pair of second-round draft picks in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
EDGE Analysis
There were reports last week that Shaw, who is a pending RFA, was close to a new deal with Chicago, but obviously those talks fell apart. The Habs traded Lars Eller to open a roster spot for Shaw, who should represent an upgrade in numerous areas. Shaw posted 14 goals and 34 points for the Blackhawks last year, which is on par with what should be expected of him this year in Montreal. Shaw works his tail off and he is a proven winner, but he certainly isn't the proven finisher that Montreal is still seeking.
