Shaw has been suspended for three preseason games for boarding Washington's Connor Hobbs in Tuesday's preseason contest.
EDGE Analysis
The Canadiens signed Shaw to a six-year, $23.4 million contract this offseason to add some much-needed grit to their lineup, but Tuesday's incident is just another example of the scrappy winger's continual struggle to play his physical brand of hockey without taking unnecessary and often times dangerous penalties. The good news is the scrappy winger will be eligible to return to action for the Habs' penultimate preseason game Oct. 4 against Boston, and presumably won't miss any regular-season action. The bad news is Shaw is a repeat offender, and will likely be handed a longer-than-normal suspension if he gets into trouble with the NHL's Department of Player Safety again this season.
