Reggie Wayne is moving all around the formation during training camp.

Profootballtalk.com reports the Colts' new contracts with Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis were originally rejected by the league, but have since been approved. It's unknown what the hang-up was, but it likely involved some sort of illegal front-loading or bonus structuring. It doesn't appear either deal ever came close to falling through.

The Boston Globe confirms the Patriots were a finalist to land Reggie Wayne before he re-signed with the Colts. Wayne had hinted in an online journal that he considered the Patriots. Although he no longer separates down field, Wayne can still operate effectively outside the numbers, a primary need in New England.

Wayne has been considered as good as gone from Indianapolis for several months, but it appears the Colts might be willing to offer a safety net if he generates softer than expected interest on the open market. On the record as not being tied to fellow free agent Peyton Manning, Wayne is still most likely to follow the money.

NFL.com's Albert Breer reports free agent Reggie Wayne "does not necessarily see his future tied" to that of fellow free agent Peyton Manning. According to Breer, Wayne is open to choosing a new home before Manning. Wayne must have sensed he was losing leverage as he became increasingly viewed as a package deal with his former quarterback. Displeased with his contract for several years running, Wayne hinted more than once last season he planned to seek top dollar this offseason.

If the Cardinals do land Peyton Manning, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic does not expect them to pair him with free agent Reggie Wayne. Wayne wants a "package deal" with Manning, but he also seems primarily intent on returning to Miami, where Wayne went to college. At this point, Wayne has emerged as a likelier candidate than his longtime quarterback to play for the Dolphins. The Cardinals could use Wayne, but they're also a bit strapped for cap space. They might defer to Early Doucet's younger legs.

The Cardinals have held ''internal conversations'' about signing free agent WR Reggie Wayne. Peyton Manning's top target in Indianapolis, Wayne is expected to sign as a ''package deal'' this offseason, leading further speculation that the Cardinals are serious in their pursuit of Manning.
