Reggie Wayne was held to three catches for 24 yards in Sunday's loss to the Steelers. Wayne was targeted 13 times, but displayed a startling lack of chemistry with Kerry Collins, who routinely overthrew him on timing routes. Wayne has drawn 32 looks through Indy's first three games, but managed to catch just 14 of them. With Collins dealing with a possible concussion, Wayne could have Curtis Painter throwing to him in Week 4 against the Bucs.

Steelers RCB Ike Taylor will be assigned to shadow Reggie Wayne this week. Taylor isn't exactly Revis Island, but he's held his own against top receivers going back to the beginning of the 2010 season. He's only had seven passes in his direction over the first two games. Wayne is closer to WR3 territory this week.

Browns beat writer Scott Petrak considers the team "unlikely" to use LCB Joe Haden to shadow Reggie Wayne in Week 2. Haden plays virtually all of his snaps at left corner, and Wayne usually faces off with RCBs. Though Haden has established himself as a borderline shutdown cornerback, NFL teams hesitate to let even their top defensive backs follow opposing No. 1 receivers because other DBs take it as a sign of in-house disrespect. Wayne shouldn't have trouble getting open against Browns RCB Sheldon Brown, though he's sure to see plenty of double teams.

Reggie Wayne caught seven passes for 106 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Texans. Wayne got going in garbage time. He made a ridiculous play for his touchdown, tapping his feet in for a 6-yard score. Wayne was clearly Kerry Collins' favorite receiver, racking up 11 targets -- five more than any other Colt. And with Indy likely to play from behind a lot this year, Wayne will maintain borderline WR1 status.

Reggie Wayne caught six balls for 105 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' third preseason game. The highlight of Wayne's night was a 57-yard touchdown bomb down the left sideline on a badly blown coverage by the Packers. How any defense could let Wayne get that open -- even in a preseason game -- is beyond us. Regardless, Wayne remains one of the most precise route runners in football and will get open on possession routes this season. He's just not a deep threat anymore.

Reggie Wayne missed the Colts' preseason game against the Redskins on Friday with a personal issue. Wayne has now been away for three days with a vague "personal issue." According to ProFootballTalk, "It's impossible to rule out that Wayne is merely unhappy with his personal income." Set to make $5.95 million in a season in which he'll turn 33, it would be easy to understand if Wayne was looking to have his contract sweetened. His status should be updated this weekend.

Reggie Wayne has reported to Colts training camp on time despite disappointment with his contract situation. "I'm going to honor that year," said Wayne, referring to the last season on his contract. "Isn't what what they say? Gotta honor that contract." Wayne clearly isn't happy with his deal, but time (and wins) tends to paper over these wounds. The 32-year-old is due a relatively modest $5.95 million in 2011.

Executive Bill Polian said the Colts will not give Reggie Wayne or Robert Mathis early contract extensions. Each player's contract is up after this season and each wants a long-term deal. Polian says that both will be a priority next season, but he's wise to hold off. Wayne will be 33 in November and is already losing a step. If he falls off more this season, the Colts could retain him cheaper.

Although he remains unhappy with his contract, Reggie Wayne has no plans to hold out this summer. In the final year of a six-year deal, Wayne is set to earn $5.95 million this season. Hardly a poor man's wages, but not enough for someone that leads all NFL receivers with 643 catches and 8,849 yards over the past seven seasons. Unfortunately for Wayne, Peyton Manning's contract is going to be a much larger concern for the Colts once the transactions freeze is finally lifted.
