Malcom Floyd (knee) returned to Chargers practice Monday and is on track to play in Week 1.
The right knee injury proved to be a minor sprain. Floyd is tentatively expected to open the season as San Diego's starting X receiver -- Danario Alexander's old position -- with Vincent Brown at Z and Eddie Royal in the slot. That all assumes Floyd stays healthy enough to hold off third-round pick Keenan Allen.

The Union-Tribune believes Malcom Floyd (knee) has a "realistic chance" to play in Week 1.
Floyd went down on Aug. 9 and was diagnosed with a sprain in his right knee. He's resumed running and could be closer to a return than Eddie Royal (lungs). "It feels better every day," Floyd said. "No setbacks. ... I'm still taking it one day at a time."

Malcom Floyd (knee) returned to a limited practice Saturday.
Floyd did some light jogging and caught passes on a side field. It's a good sign, but he likely won't play in either of the remaining two preseason games. Floyd was diagnosed with a strained right knee earlier in the week, and he remains very questionable for the season opener against the Texans.

A second opinion of Malcom Floyd's injured right knee revealed no structural damage, and his time missed will "depend on how he feels."
It's a matter of pain tolerance. With 26 days to go until Week 1, Floyd is now more likely than not to suit up for the Bolts' opener. The deep threat still isn't more than a WR4/5 in a Chargers offense that figures to be majorly reined in this season.

Malcom Floyd is getting a second opinion on his right knee MRI.
The original diagnosis is a sprain. But small tears in ligaments are often easily missed, so the Chargers are sending Floyd's results to Dr. James Andrews. If Andrews sees anything questionable, Floyd will go in for a meeting. Either way, Floyd is out for the rest of the preseason and very questionable for Week 1.

A source tells ESPN that Malcom Floyd (knee) won't return until Week 1 at the earliest.
A Monday night MRI brought good news as Floyd avoided a ligament tear. But he's not out of the woods yet as a severe sprain could sideline him for a month or more. It's looking more and more like the Chargers are going to be forced to roll with Vincent Brown, rookie Keenan Allen and slot man Eddie Royal as their top-three wideouts come Week 1. They lost difference-maker Danario Alexander to an ACL tear last week. With a declining Philip Rivers, a leaky offensive line and a lack of weapons, this Chargers' passing game has the potential to be very bad.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chargers "fear" Malcom Floyd tore his right ACL in Monday's training camp practice.
Danario Alexander tore his right ACL just six days ago. Floyd got tangled up with CB Shareece Wright in an 11-on-11 drill, and his knee twisted awkwardly as he landed. Coach Mike McCoy was near the play and called for the head trainer immediately. He was then carted to the locker room and is currently undergoing an MRI. Keenan Allen took Floyd's spot in the starting lineup opposite Vincent Brown.
