Malcom Floyd was carted off the practice field with a potentially serious right knee injury Monday. Beat writer Michael Gehlken witnessed the injury, and said it "does not look good." Floyd was down on the ground for several minutes, and many of his Chargers teammates gathered around him in prayer. It would be a huge loss for the Chargers who have already lost Danario Alexander for the season to a torn right ACL. Robert Meachem and rookie Keenan Allen may be forced into action this season. We should know more about Floyd's knee Monday evening.

Malcom Floyd is listed as the starting wideout opposite Danario Alexander on the Chargers' initial camp depth chart. Behind Floyd and Alexander are Vincent Brown and Eddie Royal, respectively. Rookie Keenan Allen is on the third-team offense, along with Robert Meachem. As big, long, and "leggy" wideouts lacking ideal short-area movement skills, Floyd and DX are tough fits in the quick-pass offense new coach Mike McCoy intends to run. Look for Brown to make a run at Floyd when he gets healthy.

Malcom Floyd is being asked to run completely different routes this season. The Chargers are ditching their vertically-oriented passing scheme in favor a plan that emphasizes getting the ball out quickly. It's a no-brainer move as the declining Philip Rivers operates behind one of the league's worst offensive lines. The problem for Floyd is that he's previously only been asked to go deep and use his 6-foot-5 frame to make acrobatic catches. The short routes are not his forte, and he's going to be pushed by Vincent Brown in training camp. Floyd will be overdrafted in most fantasy circles.

Malcom Floyd (ankle) is practicing in full at Chargers minicamp. Floyd missed the final two games of last season due to an ankle sprain. He says he's added five pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-5 frame. "Best I've ever felt," he said. Floyd will have to hold off a charge from Vincent Brown to retain his every-down role opposite Danario Alexander. The two are rotating with the starters at minicamp.

A league source tells the Union-Tribune San Diego that Malcom Floyd's (injured reserve) ankle injury is only a sprain, not a break. Floyd was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, but it wasn't because his injury was major. With only two games left in the season, he simply didn't have enough time to get healthy. His sprain is likely of the "high" variety. Although both Floyd's yards per game and yards per catch dropped precipitously this season, he'll be back with the Chargers in 2013 after signing a four-year extension in September.

Chargers placed Malcom Floyd (ankle), Ryan Mathews (collarbone), and OL Reggie Wells (undisclosed) on season-ending injured reserve. Floyd suffered the injury in the Week 15 blowout loss to the Panthers. There are still no details available, but the medical staff must have determined that he would be out at least two weeks. Floyd is sure to be back in San Diego after signing an extension in late September, but his fantasy value took a hit following the emergence of Danario Alexander as Philip Rivers' go-to target down the stretch. Floyd finishes the season 27th in fantasy points with a 56/814/5 stat line over 14 games. Robert Meachem, a $25.9 million mistake, could get a two-game reprieve as the starter opposite Alexander.

Malcom Floyd is listed on the Chargers' Week 16 injury report with an ankle issue. Floyd sustained the injury during Sunday's loss to the Panthers, but we didn't notice him leave the game. It's possible he has a minor sprain that swelled up overnight. Regardless, Floyd won't be a viable fantasy option in Week 16 against the Jets' No. 2 pass defense.

Malcom Floyd caught four balls for 61 yards in the Chargers' Week 13 loss to the Bengals. He was targeted seven times. Floyd has clearly fallen behind Danario Alexander (10 targets) in San Diego's passing-game pecking order and flatlined as no more than a low-end WR3 option, week to week. Through 12 games, Floyd is on pace for 68 catches, 1,020 yards, and five touchdowns. The Chargers head to Pittsburgh next.

Malcom Floyd has taken over "Z" receiver duties in the San Diego offense. Floyd had previously been lining up as the "X" wideout, while Robert Meachem was handling the "Z" spot. Meachem has since been sent to the bench with Danario Alexander taking over Floyd's "X" role. Floyd played "Z" exclusively in Week 10 and caught six passes for 63 yards and a score. He'll continue to line up next to Antonio Gates to create matchup problems for the opposing defense. This move just further solidifies Meachem's spot on the sideline and DX's ever-increasing role in the offense.
