The Chiefs are considering submitting a waiver claim on Kyle Orton, a source tells NFL.com's Steve Wyche. Although the Chiefs are only two games out of first place in the AFC West, they aren't realistic threats to win the division. But if they stick with Tyler Palko at quarterback, they might not win another game all year. The addition of Orton would be a major boost to Dwayne Bowe and the entire passing game. The Chiefs are ahead of the Bears and behind the Colts in the waiver process.

ESPN Chicago reports that the Bears will put in a claim for Kyle Orton before Wednesday's 3PM ET waiver deadline. We suspected as much, but whether Orton will fall to the Bears' No. 30 position in the waiver process is another story. It is notable that the Bears are so interested in Orton they are willing to claim the hefty $2.58 million left on his salary for just six weeks of service. That will be no small obstacle for teams like the Colts and Chiefs, who are higher in the waiver order but have bleaker outlooks for the season. K.C is still going to be Chicago's biggest obstacle, as we see it. Despite a recent collapse, the Chiefs are only two games out of first in the AFC West, and it's no secret that coach Todd Haley's job is on the line.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans have no interest in claiming QB Kyle Orton on waivers. This hardly a surprise. The Texans are confident in Matt Leinart, who has been in Gary Kubiak's offense for two years. Any QB they sign will be a third-stringer behind Leinart and T.J. Yates. The Chicago Tribune and Fox Sports' Jay Glazer both report the Bears do indeed plan to put in a claim for Orton, though he's expected to back up Caleb Hanie if awarded to Chicago.

The Bears are in the 30th waiver position for Kyle Orton this week. The Texans have a higher spot because their 7-3 record has come against an easier schedule. Though Orton had made it known earlier in the year that he didn't want to leave the Denver area, the Denver Post notes that his agent started talks with the Broncos once Jay Cutler went down with a thumb injury. Chicago is the one team Orton does want to join. With just $1.324 million remaining on his salary, though, another team could step in front of the Bears -- if Chicago is even interested.

Kyle Orton will serve as Tim Tebow's backup in Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Orton lost his starting job, but he's still the backup. Brady Quinn will not be active as the No. 3 quarterback today.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos would have accepted a seventh-round pick in return for Kyle Orton at the trade deadline. It's hardly a surprise that no team stepped up to take on the roughly $5 million left on Orton's 2011 salary. He would have been tasked with learning a new offense, minimizing his impact on any team the rest of the way. An impending free agent, Orton will not be back in Denver in 2012.

The Associated Press story claiming Kyle Orton has asked the Broncos to trade him was deleted late Sunday night. The story was published today, saying "So has QB Kyle Orton in a mini-stampede," after referring to Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal's trade demands. A Denver AP writer claims the Associated Press was citing Orton's July trade request, although the story as it was read said nothing of a summer demand. Regardless, it now appears Orton has not requested a trade. That doesn't mean he won't be traded if the Broncos can find a suitor before Tuesday, of course.

Kyle Orton told Vic Lombardi of CBS 4 Denver that he has not asked the Broncos to trade him. Orton is "pretty irritated" about the report, and says "the AP story is wrong." Mike Klis of the Denver Post also reports that Orton has not demanded to be dealt, citing the recent birth of his daughter as a reason Orton would want to stay in Denver. The Broncos' organization would likely prefer to rid itself of the roughly $5 million left on Orton's contract, if it's possible. The Raiders would seem like the most obvious suitor, but for now Oakland appears to have its sights set on Carson Palmer.

According to the Associated Press, Kyle Orton has asked the Broncos to trade him in advance of Tuesday's deadline. We'll caution that this item was thrown into an AP article discussing the previously reported Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal trade requests. "So has QB Kyle Orton in a mini-stampede," writes the Associated Press. It's not the least bit surprising that Orton would ask out considering he was recently benched for Tim Tebow. With the Broncos, Orton wouldn't get that chance again without a Tebow injury, and possibly one to Brady Quinn, too.
