Kyle Orton was forced from Sunday's game against the Bears with an injured throwing hand.
Orton was subbed in for a miserably ineffective Tyler Palko early in the second quarter, but took a helmet to his throwing hand on his first play of the game. He immediately signaled that he was hurt, and subbed back out for Palko. He has yet to remove his helmet on the sideline, and is likely questionable to return. Stay tuned.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Monday that Kyle Orton will "work into" some first-team reps at practice this week, but that "Tyler (Palko) is the starter" at quarterback.
It's doubtful Haley is telling the truth, but at least publicly he's sticking with the quarterback who's committed seven turnovers while leading the Chiefs to only 12 points the past two weeks. It's hard to believe the Chiefs' offense, which has produced just one touchdown in its past four games, could be too complicated for Orton to learn in one week, but that's what Haley seems to be suggesting. Orton remains the favorite to start in Week 13.

Kyle Orton is inactive for Sunday night's game against the Steelers.
Glenn Dorsey (knee) is active. With Orton able to get in only one practice after being claimed on waivers Wednesday, Kansas City has opted for another week of Tyler Palko at quarterback. He'll be backed up by Ricky Stanzi. It's hard to believe Orton wouldn't be the Chiefs' best option tonight, but perhaps they were spooked by Carson Palmer's disastrous initial showing with the Raiders. Also inactive for the Chiefs are S Donald Washington, LB Demorrio Williams, G Ryan Lilja, TE Jake O'Connell, 65 Lilja 85 Oconnell, DT Brandon Bair and NT Jerrell Powe.

Kyle Orton may be the Chiefs' third quarterback for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Orton was able to get in just one practice this week, so the Chiefs are considering going with Ricky Stanzi behind Tyler Palko for one more game. Although it would certainly be far from ideal for Orton to go up against the Steelers with so few Chiefs reps under his belt, it's hard to believe he wouldn't be a better option than Stanzi, and perhaps even Palko. He should start in Week 13.

Waivers acquisition Kyle Orton reported to Chiefs headquarters on Friday.
Orton will have gotten in one practice before Sunday's game against the Steelers. Owners of the Pittsburgh fantasy defense should be happy to know that Tyler Palko will be starting in Week 12. It's a safe bet that Palko will struggle mightily, and Orton will be under center for Kansas City by Week 13.

The Chiefs insist that Kyle Orton will not be handed the starting quarterback job in Week 13.
"It will depend on Tyler [Palko]," coach Todd Haley said. "He's worked hard. He understands the offense. There's a lot to be encouraged about. I'm excited to see the progression here Sunday night." OC Bill Muir's goal is to assimilate his new QB "as quickly as possible" and then play the best option once Orton is up to speed. We still expect to see Orton under center next week.

Speaking Wednesday evening, Kyle Orton indicated that he fully intends to report to the Chiefs after they were awarded him on waivers.
"Just wanted everybody to hear it from me first," Orton said. "I am happy to be a part of the Kansas City Chiefs. ... I am excited about the last few days and I am looking forward to getting to know my teammates with the Chiefs." ESPN's John Clayton reported early Wednesday that Orton might not report to K.C. because he wanted to be a Bear. It appears "The Professor"'s report was inaccurate, which we've noticed is becoming a recurring theme for Clayton. Orton will probably be the Chiefs' starting quarterback by Week 13.

Chiefs claimed Kyle Orton off waivers from the Broncos.
The Cowboys and Bears also reportedly made claims. Orton represents a massive upgrade over Tyler Palko under center for the Chiefs, but hinted through back-channels he wouldn't report if claimed by Kansas City. A messy situation could be about to unfold, but it's ultimately unlikely Orton sits out. If he does report, he's worth an immediate flier in two-QB leagues, and should help resuscitate the value of Dwayne Bowe, Jonathan Baldwin and Steve Breaston. The Bears will now officially attempt to make the playoffs on the back of Caleb Hanie.

The Colts will reportedly not submit a waiver claim on Kyle Orton.
The Indianapolis Star's Phillip B. Wilson reports the Colts used up most of their available cap space when they signed Kerry Collins, so they can't afford to take on Orton's roughly $2.58 million in remaining salary. The Bears and Chiefs remain the most likely teams to pluck Orton off waivers ahead of this afternoon's 3PM ET deadline.
