NFL Network's Michelle Beisner reports the Dolphins never made an official trade offer for Kyle Orton.
It's a good bet the two sides at least discussed the parameters of the deal, but it never graduated to the next step without a long-term contract agreement with Orton. We still don't believe we've heard the last of the Dolphins and Orton.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports the Broncos potential trade with the Dolphins fell through due to Kyle Orton's contract demands, not draft-pick compensation.
This would explain the report that the Dolphins still want Orton. The 28-year-old has never had a shot at free agency, so it's hard to blame him for trying to cash in on a potential trade. This news takes the Broncos front office hook, though they're still left with an uncomfortable situation at quarterback. It's possible that Orton will lower his demands once it becomes clear that the Broncos want to go in a different direction.

The Broncos have paid Kyle Orton's $1.5 million roster bonus, increasing the chances that he'll remain on the 2011 roster.
Of course, he's also got a whopping $7.379M salary. ESPN cap analyst Andrew Brandt suggests the roster bonus ensures Orton isn't going anywhere, but we still have our doubts. It's well known that the Broncos need to see if Tim Tebow is a starting-capable quarterback, and no team can afford to have a player as pricey as Orton warming the bench. If a team suffers a QB injury during camp, Denver should be their first phone call.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora insists the Dolphins still want Kyle Orton, and "know he could beat out Chad Henne" to become the starter.
It's an interesting reversal as LaCanfora has been insisting for months that Orton was likely to stay in Denver. Orton tells SI.com's Jim Trotter that he's under the impression a deal with Miami is "dead." Trotter has been unable to get confirmation from the Broncos. Matt Moore's contract shouldn't be prohibitive in seeking a third QB, so the Dolphins could revisit the trade talks down the line.

Kyle Orton will not be traded to the Dolphins, confirms ESPN's John Clayton.
Miami called Denver's bluff and signed Matt Moore to compete with Chad Henne. That leaves the Broncos in quite a predicament as they reportedly prefer Tim Tebow to Orton but have no viable trade partners left. Orton is currently running with the starters at Broncos camp and they may have to wait for an injury to explore trade options again.

According to the Arizona Republic, the Cardinals identified Kevin Kolb as their quarterback priority due to concerns about Kyle Orton on third downs and in the red zone.
Orton finished at the bottom of the pack in passer rating in both situations, usually a sign of poor arm strength and questionable decision-making. The Cardinals believe Orton has proven to be a mediocre starter, more of a place-holder than a solution. It's quite possible that Kevin Kolb will have similar issues of his own.

According to ESPN's John Clayton, a Kyle Orton "won't happen" until the Broncos get a better offer.
"That could still happen," says Clayton, "but they will keep him for now." The Broncos are trying salvage decent value for Orton when it's widely believed they could end up releasing him and going with Tim Tebow as the starter. We'll find out if the Dolphins have legitimate interest in Vince Young after all.

The Miami Herald suggests the Kyle Orton "stare-down" could last until August 4, when teams must get under the salary cap.
The Dolphins know that the market for Orton has dried up, eliminating all of the Broncos' leverage. So Denver goes out and makes Orton the first-team quarterback Thursday, a likely bluff to get Miami to blink. The Dolphins reportedly have some restructuring of their own to do before bringing in Orton, so this is going to take a little time. We still think he'll end up Miami and Tim Tebow will be Denver's starter.
