Freeney plans to play another season in 2015, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next week, Freeney has just nine sacks in 34 games over the last three seasons. While not the gameplan-ruining monster he once was, he seemingly has enough left in the tank to keep contributing as a situational pass rusher. Now 35 years old, Freeney has long been out of the IDP conversation.

Freeney (non injury-related) no longer appears on the Chargers' Week 12 injury report. Freeney rested Wednesday, before returning to a full practice session Thursday and is good to go for Sunday's game against the Rams. Despite the name recognition, Freeney is off the fantasy radar, with seven tackles and two sacks through 10 games to date.

Freeney (knee) is active for Sunday's game at Miami. Freeney has only seven tackles and two sacks on the year so far, but he is available if you need an IDP option.

The Chargers will use 34-year-old OLB Dwight Freeney in a "situational role" this season. Jarret Johnson figures to "start" on early downs, with Freeney replacing him in pass-rush situations. Melvin Ingram should be an every-down player. Freeney is coming off a torn quad suffered last September. He managed 0.5 sacks across four 2013 games, but pressured QBs at a better clip than that stat suggests.

Dwight Freeney agreed to reduce his 2014 salary from $3.5 million to $2.5 million. The move saves the Chargers just under $1 million against the 2014 salary cap. Freeney only played four games with the Chargers in 2013 after suffering a torn quad late in September. Freeney did not light up the boxscore before going down, but was generating consistent pressure for the Bolts. With Melvin Ingram healthy again, Freeney should be utilized as a pass-rush specialist in 2014.

Charges placed OLB Dwight Freeney on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps, ending his season. He's undergoing surgery. Freeney signed a two-year, $8.75 million deal in May, but it's quite possible his Bolts career is over after only four games, as he's due no guaranteed money in 2014. Freeney wasn't making a huge box-score impact before going down, but had graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 8 3-4 outside linebacker. He was generating consistent pressure despite notching only 0.5 sacks. Larry English is sliding into the starting lineup opposite Jarret Johnson.

A source tells NFL Network that OLB Dwight Freeney sustained a torn quadriceps muscle in Sunday's win over the Cowboys. The Chargers are still trying to determine whether Freeney will land on injured reserve. Regardless, it's a big blow to the Chargers pass rush. Through the first three games, Freeney racked up 13 quarterback hurries, three quarterback hits and a half-sack while playing on 72.3 percent of the snaps. Former first-round pick Larry English is going to have to step up opposite Jarret Johnson.

Chargers OLB Dwight Freeney was forced from Sunday's game with a quad injury, and will not return. Freeney remained down for several minutes after getting rolled up in the second quarter. He eventually limped to the sideline, but headed straight for the locker room. Freeney has just 0.5 sacks through four games.

Chargers DC John Pagano made it clear OLB Dwight Freeney will be an every-down defender as opposed to a pass-rush specialist. Freeney is 33 years old, but the Chargers need him to play every snap because they have zero depth in the edge-rusher department after losing Melvin Ingram. "He's going to be an every-down guy for us," Pagano said. "Need him on first, second, third down. He's going to play all downs." It's very hard to imagine Freeney sustaining effectiveness on this kind of workload. San Diego's defense is going to struggle to defend the pass this season.

Dwight Freeney reported to Chargers OTAs Wednesday. Freeney waited 18 days to report after signing his two-year, $8.75 million contract. Freeney has missed just five games over the past five seasons, and even going into his age-33 campaign, he should be in tip-top shape for Week 1.
