Head coach Jim Caldwell has declined to provide specifics regarding Levy's hip injury, The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Caldwell did not confirm or deny reports that Levy is dealing with an ailment brought on by a parasite. Levy's agent denied the reports, describing Levy's injury as a "muscle strain." While the lack of information the team is providing on the injury may be frustrating fans, Caldwell indicated that Levy was not placed on injured reserve with a designation to return, a move that would have kept him out half the season, because "we thought obviously the avenue in which we took is the appropriate one at this time."

Levy (hip) won't play Sunday against the Vikings, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy has not practiced since Aug. 24 due to a hip strain, so his Week 3 status is cloudy as well. In his absence this weekend, Josh Bynes will start in Levy's place on Sunday.

Levy (hip) did not take part in Friday's practice, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy did not take the field at all this week, so it's looking likely he will miss a second straight game. The Lions will officially update his Week 2 status sometime Friday afternoon.

Levy (hip) did not practice on Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy hasn't practiced since Aug. 24 and it appears as if the Lions are preparing to play without their star linebacker for a second straight week. If he is unable to go, Josh Bynes will likely get the start once again. The 26-year-old recorded eight tackles (six solo) in 57 snaps against the Chargers last Sunday.

Levy (hip) did not practice Wednesday, the Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Coach Jim Caldwell didn't offer much clarity on Levy's Week 2 status, so consider the linebacker iffy for Sunday's tilt against the Vikings. "You'll have to just kind of glean what you can from the report," Caldwell said of Levy's status.

Levy (hip) is inactive for the Lions' Week 1 matchup with the Chargers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The writing was on the wall for Levy's absence, as he failed to practice all week to put his status in doubt for the opener. The Lions will have to get by with arguably their top defensive player on the field, as Levy accrued a career-best 151 tackles last season to go along with 2.5 sacks. Detroit is expected to replace him with some combination of Travis Lewis and Josh Byrnes at the weakside linebacker spot.

Levy (hip) is doubtful for Sunday's regular-season opener in San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Levy was absent from practice all week, but a recent report suggested that he has been making some progress. With the star linebacker out for Week 1, the Lions will likely turn to Josh Bynes and/or Travis Lewis on the weak side.

Levy (hip) is likely to miss Sunday's season opener, but is improving, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though he didn't practice on Wednesday, his condition is believed to be improving and it does not look like he will need surgery. As Birkett points out, if Detroit believed that there was a chance for Levy to miss extended time, they would have designated him for injured reserve with a chance to return. Levy led the team in tackles last season with 151. Expect Josh Bynes and Travis Lewis to see more playing time in Levy's absence.

Levy (hip) didn't practice Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
There has been some worry that Levy could miss an extended period of time due to a serious hip injury. He hasn't been on the field since before the third preseason game. The Lions have yet to comment on the situation. However, if Levy does remain on the sideline, Josh Bynes could get the starting nod.

Detroit Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy agreed to a four-year contract extension Wednesday, according to ESPN.com. Levy blossomed into one of the top linebackers in the league last year, when he recorded a league-leading 117 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception. The 28-year-old had made it known that he wanted a new contract, but that he was comfortable playing this season under the last year of his previous deal. The terms of the extension were not immediately released, but it is believed to be in the range of the four-year, $43 million deal that Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner signed four days ago. "He's a phenomenal talent," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Tuesday. "We want to have him around. We're not trying to get him on the cheap." Levy will serve as one of the leaders of the Lions' defense after the departure of defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh.
