Head coach Jim Caldwell believes that Levy (hip) will resemble his former self in 2016, Lindsay Selengowski of the Lions' official site reports. "I'm fully expecting him to be able to do the things he's always done for us," Caldwell said. "Make plenty of tackles. Be able to cover guys in terms of pass routes out of the backfield and detached. And certainly give us some help in terms of rushing the passer and blitzing once and a while. I expect him to be the same active guy he's always been."
EDGE Analysis
Coming off three 100-tackle campaigns in four seasons, Levy inked a four-year extension with the Lions in early August, but an extended absence in the second half of the preseason was confirmed as a hip injury in advance of Week 1. It was serious enough to keep the outside linebacker off the field until Week 5, when he went without a tackle on 17 snaps. Hip surgery was soon ordered up, and injured reserve was his home the final two months of the season, meaning Caldwell's confidence in Levy's ability to bounce back won't be confirmed until OTAs and potentially even the start of training camp.

Lions president Rod Wood said Levy is trending towards being ready for the start of training camp.
EDGE Analysis
This isn't necessarily a positive development, as a January report suggested that Levy would likely be ready for offseason workouts. While that may still be the case, it sounds as if he has quite a ways to go in his recovery from October hip surgery. When healthy, he's one of the better 4-3 linebackers in the NFL, providing a rare combination of pass coverage and run-stopping ability. Levy had 151 tackles (117) in 2014 but then missed the entire 2015 season due to the hip injury.

Levy (hip) is expected to participate in offseason workouts in the spring, the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
After inking a lucrative four-year deal in August, Levy mustered just 17 snaps thereafter due to continuing issues with his hip, which required surgery in mid-October. While the door was left ajar for a return at some point in the season, the Lions opted to shut him down for good on Nov. 4. Head coach Jim Caldwell has noted that Levy has looked "great" in rehab sessions, indicating that the weakside linebacker is progressing well through the healing process. If all goes as planned, Levy will be of interest in IDP circles with three 100-tackle campaigns in six seasons prior to 2015.

Levy (hip) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shortly after signing a four-year extension in August, Levy came down with a hip injury that dogged him throughout the first month of the season. He finally made an appearance in Week 5, but he logged just 17 snaps without recording a tackle before aggravating the ailment. Following hip surgery, the Lions kept the door open for a return this season, but the decision was made Wednesday to shut him down for the season. Expect Josh Bynes to continue working as the nominal weakside linebacker in Detroit.

Levy (hip) is hoping to begin light jogging this week while recovering from his hip surgery a couple weeks ago, the Lions' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy said of his status for the season, "It's going to be based on what my recovery is the next couple weeks and see how fast or slow things go and ultimately what will be best long-term." The All Pro last season has only played in one game this year. A return to the field this season would certainly help the woeful Lions, who sit in the NFC North cellar at 1-6.

Levy did undergo surgery on his hip Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Lions still haven't decided if they will place their star linebacker on injured reserve -- that decision will likely come closer to the beginning of November. Still, considering the Lions just signed Levy to a $33 million extension in August, it's unlikely they will rush one of their more valuable assets back onto the field in what already appears to be a lost season for Detroit.

Levy is slated for hip surgery, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports. However, head coach Jim Caldwell told MLive.com's Kyle Meinke that the linebacker won't immediately be placed on injured reserve.
EDGE Analysis
The preceding confirms a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that the Lions won't make the IR call for 2-to-3 weeks. If Levy's recovery proceeds quickly, there's the potential that he could play for at least the final month of the season. However, considering how his (and the Lions') season has gone to date, it's difficult to see him take the field over the final 11 games due to the $33-million investment made in August.

Levy suffered a hip injury in Sunday's game against the Cardinals and is questionable to return, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy can't seem to catch a break lately. Playing in his first game this season, Levy suffered a hip injury in the second quarter and was taken into the locker room. He had been sidelined since August 24 with a separate hip injury. Josh Bynes, who has played in Levy's place thus far, was once again on the field today in Levy's absence.

Levy (hip) is active for Sunday's contest versus the Cardinals, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy fit in all practice reps this week, intimating that he'll take on a full allotment of snaps in his season debut. After averaging more than nine tackles per game in 2014, he should return to IDP glory sooner rather than later.

Levy (hip) will make his season debut Sunday against the Cardinals, the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Levy is ready to go after missing the Lions' first four games with the hip injury. He should give the Lions' defense a boost, and was one of the top IDP linebackers the last two seasons, so it's worth checking to see if he is available if you play in a league that uses IDPs.
