Andre Brown limped off the field in the third quarter of the Giants' preseason finale with an apparent left ankle injury. It's the same leg in which Brown fractured his fibula last season. Brown made his way off the field and into the locker room under his own power, but noticeably limped and has long had a significant injury history. He was even injury prone at North Carolina State. The Giants' opener is just ten days away.

Andre Brown told the NY Daily News it "killed me" when he got stuffed at the Jets' four-yard line on his final first-team carry of the Giants' third preseason game. "I was like 'Oh, how the hell did we not get it in?'" he said. "Especially me, I pride myself on being a goal-line back." We charted every first-team preseason touch from Giants backs. Red-zone touches were split down the middle between Brown and David Wilson (5 apiece), and each received two touches inside the opposing five-yard line. The Giants appear to be auditioning both backs for the red-zone/goal-line role. Wilson is the starter, and Brown is the third-down back.

Andre Brown reiterated that he's the Giants' goal-line back. This has been the case throughout the entire offseason program and exhibition season. Brown gets his work on third downs and in the red zone, leaving David Wilson to do all the damage between the 20s. It gives Brown far more upside in touchdown-heavy formats as he's unlikely to get anything more than 10 touches per game. Back in 2010, the Giants gave Brandon Jacobs 147 carries and Ahmad Bradshaw 276.

Andre Brown rushed for 17 yards on seven carries in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets. Brown played behind David Wilson and got the majority of his carries in second quarter, but was used in pass protection and in short-yardage situations. He was the Giants' preferred option in the red-zone, but failed to convert on both of his goal-line carries. Brown has had an underwhelming preseason. He has 17 carries for 76 yards (4.5 YPC) and a fumble through three games.

Andre Brown rushed eight times for 36 yards and caught a six-yard pass in the Giants' second preseason game Sunday night. David Wilson is starting the games, but Brown is entering on all third downs and getting some full possessions to himself. The Giants' backfield is clearly a timeshare, which makes sense because Brown is a reliable football player even if Wilson has so much more explosiveness. Through two exhibition contests, Brown has 12 carries for 59 yards (4.92 YPC) and a pair of catches.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin admitted after Saturday's preseason opener Andre Brown's lost fumble "concerns" him. Coughlin was pleased with Brown's pass protection, but famously detests fumblers. "It concerns me," he said. "It concerns Andre, too. I don't care how much and how long you play the game -- there are certain things that have to happen before you run the ball." Brown's fumble probably isn't a big threat to his playing time as of now, but another loose ball could definitely cost him.

Andre Brown was limited to 23 yards on four carries in Saturday night's preseason opener against the Steelers. He added one catch for seven yards. Brown played behind David Wilson, but was the preferred third-down back. The Giants struggled to establish a running game with their offense, rushing for just 40 total yards in the first-half. Brown fumbled to open the second quarter, though it was officially credited to David Carr. He could quickly find his way into Tom Coughlin's doghouse if he continues to have ball security issues.

The New York Daily News reiterates Andre Brown and David Wilson are expected to "split the rushing load this season." This has been the expectation among Giants beat writers all spring and summer. Wilson is clearly the superior talent, but Brown has so far proven a more reliable ball carrier and pass protector. He's more fundamentally sound. Wilson is worth an early-round fantasy pick for upside drafters, but there is a real chance he will struggle to average more than 12-15 touches per game.

ESPN New York suggests the Giants will "go with the hot hand" at running back.

ESPN New York confirms that Andre Brown is expected to be the Giants' goal-line back. Brown seized the role last year, scoring eight touchdowns in just 10 games. Seven of those scores came in goal-to-go situations. Brown will serve as a handcuff to David Wilson, and will also give touchdown-seeking fantasy owners standalone value.
