Giants RB coach Jerald Ingram confirmed he expects Andre Brown to return in Week 10 when first eligible.
Brown has been practicing the last two weeks and is on track to be activated following the Giants bye. He'll immediately be the favorite for carries over Peyton Hillis and Brandon Jacobs (hamstring). David Wilson (neck) remains without a set timetable to return.

Giants RB Andre Brown (leg, short-term IR) says he's "ready to go," and expects to return when first eligible in Week 10 against the Raiders.
It's excellent news for the Giants, who have been stuck with veteran retreads and practice-squad type young players in the backfield for a majority of 2013. At the very least, Brown would be a big upgrade on Peyton Hillis and Brandon Jacobs. Brown is unlikely to exceed FLEX value, but is well worth a flier if you're hurting at running back.

Andre Brown (leg, short-term IR) is practicing with the Giants this week.
Players placed on short-term injured reserve can resume practicing in six weeks and they can participate in games eight weeks after the transaction. Brown's return to the practice field when he's first eligible suggests that his recovery from a broken leg is going according to plan and he's on track to suit up following the Giants' Week 9 bye. With David Wilson (neck) in doubt and the Giants down to has-beens in Brandon Jacobs/Peyton Hillis, Brown projects to have a real role right out of the gate. He's worth a stash in deeper formats if you're in need of running back help.

Andre Brown (broken leg, short-term IR) tweeted last Thursday that he has resumed running.
"We runnnnnnniinnnnnnn let go get!!!!!!," were Brown's exact words. He's eligible to come off IR/recall when the Giants come out of their bye in Week 10. Even if David Wilson (neck) is 100 percent by that time, Brown will certainly have a real role. Brandon Jacobs and Da'Rel Scott shouldn't be on an NFL roster. Brown ran for 385 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games last year.

Andre Brown (broken leg, short-term I.R.) is jogging "here and there" on a gravity-assisted treadmill.
"Everything is going good, I don't know whether or not I'm ahead or on schedule but hopefully I'm ahead," Brown said. "It's no vacation, I'm just rehabbing and in the classroom right now." Brown is entering Week 3 of his rehab program. He was initially given a 4-6 week timetable for return. It sure doesn't sound like he's ahead of schedule. He'll be eligible to return in Week 10.

Giants placed RB Andre Brown (broken leg) on injured reserve/designated to return.
He'll be eligible to return in Week 8. Facing a 4-6 week timetable, Brown should be ready when first eligible, but his injury history isn't exactly rosy. How David Wilson fares with lead duties could also affect how hard the Giants push his fragile backup. Considering Wilson's upside and Brown's durability issues, he's a low-upside stash.

FOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports Andre Brown's fractured left leg is expected to keep him out 4-6 weeks.
In other words, he'd return to practice in Week 3 in a best case scenario, although that's an obvious long-shot estimate and it could take several more weeks for Brown to be game ready. Brown is currently not worth rostering in 10- and 12-team fantasy leagues. The Giants have not yet been actively seeking a free agent No. 2 back, but they likely will after Saturday's final cuts. Currently, some combination of journeyman Ryan Torain, kickoff returner Da'Rel Scott, and seventh-round pick Michael Cox is backing up David Wilson.

Andre Brown is hopeful he can return from Thursday night's left leg fracture "in a couple weeks."
"No, I would love to stay active," said Brown when a reporter suggested he might go on injured reserve/designated for return. "That's how I feel. I feel I can come back from this ... in a couple weeks." Coach Tom Coughlin stated in his post-game press conference Brown will "take a while" to return. Brown is hard to justify as a fantasy draft pick now, with a cracked leg and third-down back role. David Wilson is the Giants' clear feature runner.

Andre Brown described his Thursday night left-leg fracture as a "tiny crack."
"It's not that bad of a break," said Brown, who has fractured the same leg before. Brown anticipates avoiding surgery, and coach Tom Coughlin doesn't believe the injury is year-ending. Still, any fractured bone is going to require at least 4-6 weeks of healing time. Brown remains a candidate for I.R./designated for return. He is not eligible to open the season on reserve/PUP.

Andre Brown suffered a fractured left leg in the Giants' preseason finale Thursday night.
It's the same leg Brown fractured last season. It's a significant blow to the Giants' backfield depth, as the team will now likely be forced to keep rookie Michael Cox and kickoff return-type Da'Rel Scott as the backups to David Wilson. Wilson's fantasy value soars in the process, however. He's now likely to open the season as a true-every down back with no threat for passing-down or goal-line work. The Giants may strongly consider making Brown their injured reserve/designated for return player. But at the very least he's going to miss a huge chunk of the season.
