A source tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that Andrew Bynum is considering season-ending surgery on his right knee.
The surgery would be an arthroscopic procedure designed to clean out loose cartilage. Bynum is already almost certainly done for the season, but the potential surgery would make it official. After participating in a scrimmage one week ago, Bynum's knee swelled up and he's been unable to do any basketball activities since. As an impending unrestricted free agent, he'll be one of the biggest risk/reward players on the market. Bynum's knee issues are clearly chronic.

Andrew Bynum (knee) admitted that he does not want to play through pain.
"I'm 25. It's my life," Bynum said. Considering the lack of cartilage in his right knee and his degenerative condition, he may not have a choice. But fighting through pain for an atrocious Sixers team is not on Bynum's agenda -- even if it could affect his impending unrestricted free agency. "If I am healthy, then I'll get a deal," Bynum said. "But I have to be able to play. I need to get to the point with my body that I'm able to play. However long that takes." At this point, it would be a shock if Bynum plays in a single game this season.

Andrew Bynum is once again experiencing swelling in his knee after practicing last Friday, a source told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Uh oh. Bynum ditched the media on Tuesday, has been unable to do any basketball-related activities since last Friday and now it's being reported that his troublesome knee is starting to swell again. This is all on top of a report that he's dealing with a degenerative knee condition, and it's starting to look even worse than previously for Bynum. Although he's continuing to say he'll play this season, we're seriously doubting that Bynum will be cleared for that at any point in the near future. The Sixers traded Andre Iguodala, Moe Harkless and Nikola Vucevic to acquire Bynum and Jason Richardson in the offseason. Bynum will be an unrestricted free agent in search of a max contract, while Richardson is not expected to be ready to start next season on time following knee surgery. The Bynum experiment has been a downright disaster for the Sixers.

A source told ESPN's Skip Bayless that Andrew Bynum's most recent MRI revealed "degeneration" in his knees, meaning that they'll never be at full strength.
We're taking this report with a humongous tablespoon of salt as Bayless isn't someone who would typically break news of this nature. However, Bynum was a no-show when he was supposed to speak to the media on Tuesday, and it wouldn't be surprising if Bynum does have a degenerative condition as he's had knee issues throughout his career. The Sixers continue to hold out hope that Bynum will play this season, but there is still no timetable for his Philadelphia debut. It's possible he'll be out all season as he's simply running out of time to get going.

Doug Collins suggested that Andrew Bynum (knee) is not close to returning despite his participation in Friday's practice.
"I don't think any bells and whistles should be sent off that he's close to playing," said Collins. Bynum reiterated this week that he will "definitely be back sometime this year," but his optimistic updates have become white noise at this point. Stash him at your own discretion.

Andrew Bynum (knees) did some contact in 5-on-5 work during Friday's practice.
"Bynum looked like a guy who hadn't played in nine months," coach Doug Collins said. "I think the good part was he said it was fun to be out there again." Contact in practice is a big step for a guy of Bynum's size with knee issues. The likelihood of Bynum being able to return jumps up with this news and he's becoming a more attractive stash. However, it's important to remember he is still without a timetable and anyone that chooses to stash him might want to buy some ibuprofen.

Andrew Bynum (knees) finally went through a practice with the 76ers on Friday, sources told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
This is probably the biggest Bynum news we've heard in a long time, especially after he told reporters it would be another week at least before he could join his teammates in practice. The key now will be seeing how his knees respond to the increased stress. If he comes out of this reported session fine, there's a real chance he could play this season. Stay tuned.

Sixers GM Tony DiLeo says re-signing Andrew Bynum is still the team's first option this offseason but there is a backup plan just in case.
Of course, Bynum playing in a game would probably go a long way to making "Plan A" a lot more palatable to the front office and the fan base. Bynum continues to claim that he's 100 percent sure he'll do that this season, but there have been so many delays and altered timetables that it's hard to take him or the team at their word. At this point, we're operating on a "we'll believe it when we see it" stand.

Andrew Bynum (knee) claimed Tuesday that he's 100 percent sure he'll play this season.
At this point, we find it very hard to take Bynum or the Sixers at their word on this issue. His timetable has been pushed back at least five times already this season and Bynum is consistently contradicting himself in interviews. All we know that in a best-case scenario, he'll practice for the first time as a Sixer in 1-2 weeks. After that, he'll need another 1-2 weeks to get in shape before playing in a game. And if he really does return, he'll likely be on a minutes restriction and sit out back-to-backs.
