The Rangers revealed Thursday that Yu Darvish's back issue has subsided and the right-hander should have no problems with his offseason workouts. Darvish dealt with a back issue for the final two months of the season, but a little rest has apparently knocked the injury out. The 27-year-old right-hander is coming off a superb 2013 campaign that saw him put up a 2.83 ERA with a league-leading 277 strikeouts across 209 2/3 frames.

Yu Darvish received an injection Thursday for a lingering nerve issue in his lower back. It had been bothering him since August. An MRI taken near the end of the regular season came back negative and the Rangers fully expect Darvish to be 100 percent healthy when spring training opens next February in Arizona. The 27-year-old righty boasts a 3.34 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 11.2 K/9 in his first 401 major league innings.

Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News was told by a source that Yu Darvish pitched down the stretch despite dealing with what appeared to be sciatica, a common form of lower back discomfort. Sciatica can be caused by compressed nerve roots or a protruding disk. There have been hints that Darvish was dealing with some sort of physical issue, but now we have our answer. The 27-year-old failed to complete the sixth inning in each of his final three starts, but still finished with a 2.83 ERA and a major-league best 277 strikeouts over 209 2/3 innings.

Yu Darvish racked up eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in Sunday's season finale against the Angels, giving him a league-best 277 punch-outs on the season. Darvish was forced to settle for a no-decision after allowing two runs on four hits and a pair of walks in the game. The 27-year-old right-hander certainly lived up to the massive expectations set before him this season, registering a 13-9 record, 2.83 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 277/80 K/BB ratio over 209 2/3 innings. There's a strong possibility that he'll be the first starting pitcher not named Clayton Kershaw going off draft boards next spring.

Yu Darvish admitted Tuesday night that he's dealing with an undisclosed physical issue. Darvish has failed to go at least six innings in consecutive starts for the first time this season, but the Rangers are classifying his ailment as "normal wear and tear." Manager Ron Washington added that "everybody has issues that they're dealing with and (Darvish is) no different." Darvish will start the regular season finale on Sunday against the Angels.

Yu Darvish allowed two runs while striking out nine over 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision against the Astros on Tuesday. Less attractive were the four walks and four hits allowed by the right-hander in his 5 1/3 innings. Darvish owns a 2.82 ERA and 269 strikeouts in 204 innings this season, but he's also walked 78 batters in that time. His final start of the regular season will come Sunday against the Angels.

Yu Darvish survived six walks and a HBP to hold the Rays to two runs in five innings in a victory on Thursday. Darvish was given several runs to work with, but he just couldn't stop putting Rays on base. Maybe he just didn't know what to do with himself after those 1-0 losses. It took him 109 pitches to get through five innings. Still, limiting the damage got him his first win since his 15-strikeout game on Aug. 12.

Yu Darvish struck out 10 over seven innings of one-run ball Saturday against the Athletics, but was handed a tough-luck loss. Darvish allowed just four hits and one walk, but an RBI double by Brandon Moss in the first inning was enough to put him on the hook for the loss. This is the fourth time this season that he has lost by the score of 1-0. On the bright side, after hitting a bit of a rough patch, he has back-to-back starts of seven innings with one earned run allowed. He'll face the Rays next Thursday on the road.

Yu Darvish allowed only one run on four hits over seven innings to the Pirates on Monday. Darvish had the extreme misfortune of pitching opposite Gerrit Cole, so he lost anyway and fell to 12-8 with a 2.84 ERA. Darvish struck out six and walked only one, nice to see after he was whipped for five runs by the A's last time out. The right-hander also didn't surrender a home run after coughing up five in his last three starts.

Yu Darvish left Monday's start against the Pirates due to cramping in his right leg. His removal was precautionary, as Darvish is expected to be fine for his next outing. The right-hander was terrific before exiting, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk while striking out six over seven innings. Darvish will square off against the A's this weekend at home in a big AL West matchup.
