Darvish (1-1) earned the win in Friday's contest against the Pirates. He tossed six scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk while fanning seven.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish was coming off a less-than-stellar debut against the Brewers, but he bounced back admirably in this one -- he limited the Pirates to just three baserunners across six frames. Darvish will attempt to build off this performance ahead of his next start, scheduled for Aug. 5 at Kansas City.

Darvish will start Friday's game against the Pirates after his scheduled start against the Reds was postponed due to rain Thursday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish was set to face-off against Luis Castillo on Thursday evening, but with rain in Cincinnati impeding, the right-hander will instead pitch in Chicago against the Pirates on Friday. Darvish will look to bounce back from a a less than stellar season debut in which he allowed three runs in just four innings of work against Milwaukee.

Darvish (0-1) took the loss Saturday against the Brewers, allowing three earned runs on six hits across four innings. He struck out five and did not issue any walks.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish only threw 73 pitches in the outing, but manager David Ross elected to take it easy on the righty in his first start of the season. It was an uneven performance for Darvish, who struggled early in 2019 before posting a 3.58 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over his final 24 starts. He should be able to increase his pitch count and go deeper into the game his next time out, which is slated for Thursday on the road against the Reds.

Darvish will start Chicago's second game of the season against the Brewers, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish will follow Kyle Hendricks in the rotation. The right-hander posted a 3.58 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 192:29 K:BB over his final 24 starts (146 innings) in 2019 and will look to carry that form into the abbreviated 2020 season.

Darvish allowed two runs across 3.2 innings in Tuesday's intrasquad game, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. He gave up two hits and two walks, to go along with three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Probably the most important thing here is that Darvish threw 60 pitches, so he seems to be ramping up well toward the start of the regular season. There are 10 days until Opening Day for the Cubs, so throwing Tuesday puts Darvish in line for that assignment, though Kyle Hendricks also pitched in Tuesday's scrimmage and could get the nod for the opener. Manager David Ross has yet to make a formal announcement on that front, but it's expected that Darvish and Hendricks will lead the rotation in some order with Jon Lester slotted in third.

Darvish tossed two scoreless innings during an intrasquad game Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish matched up with Kyle Hendricks, who is competing with the Japanese righty to start Opening Day. Darvish is more likely to get that nod, and it was good to see him pitch multiple innings in a scrimmage with no issue. He'll continue to participate in summer camp at Wrigley Field until the abbreviated 2020 season starts later this month.

Darvish is the likely Opening Day starter, but Chicago manager David Ross is also considering Jon Lester and Kyle Hendricks, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Realistically, the competition is between Darvish and Hendricks, with Lester's name in the mix out of respect to the veteran's track record. Darvish started to look like an ace down the stretch last year, and with the amount the Cubs are paying the Japanese righty, they have every incentive to make him their No. 1 starter for the abbreviated 2020 season.

Darvish is competing with Kyle Hendricks to start Chicago's regular-season opener against the Brewers, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Chicago manager David Ross is not ready to commit to an Opening Day starter this early in spring training. Darvish will be making his first Cactus League start Wednesday against the Padres after battling an illness early in camp. The 33-year-old posted a 3.98 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and accumulated 229 strikeouts across 178.2 innings (31 starts) for the Cubs in 2019.

Darvish (illness) will start Wednesday against the Padres, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish has made just one appearance this spring, as his scheduled start Thursday against the Rangers was canceled due to the flu. He pitched in a simulated game the next day, however, and is set for Cactus League action Wednesday, so he should still be fine for the start of the regular season.

Darvish (illness) is expected to pitch three innings Friday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Darvish was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday against the Rangers due to flu-like symptoms, though he's apparently already feeling better. It's not yet clear whether Darvish will pitch in a Cactus League game or throw a simulated game.
