Wei-Yin Chen (knee) was given good news at a checkup on Thursday. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said last week that Chen's been "a little slow" to recover from right knee surgery, but he's apparently now on track to be ready for the start of spring training. The lefty posted a 4.07 ERA over 23 starts last season.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Wei-Yin Chen has been "a little slow" to recover from surgery to remove bone spurs in his right knee. Chen had the procedure back in October. Although Showalter said the left-hander's rehab hasn't been "seamless," he doesn't expect the slow recovery to affect Chen's status for Opening Day. It's unclear at this point if Chen will be on a normal schedule in spring training.

Wei-Yin Chen underwent surgery to remove small bone spurs in his right knee. Chen posted a 5.55 ERA over his final 11 starts of the season, so it's possible the knee was an issue for much of the second half. The southpaw is expected to be ready to go for the beginning of spring training and will again be part of the Orioles' rotation.

Wei-Yin Chen continued his struggles in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Saturday, giving up three runs on nine hits in his 5 1/3 innings. Chen managed to strike out five in the contest while walking just one, but remains far too hittable to enjoy consistent success. The 28-year-old southpaw finishes his second seasons stateside with a 7-7 record, 4.07 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 104/39 K/BB ratio in 137 innings. His health will play a major role in his fantasy draft stock next season.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed three runs on 11 hits over 5 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Wednesday. Chen has had a rough go of it lately, as he's now seen his ERA climb to 4.03 after entering August with a 2.87 ERA. He gave up 11 hits, including two home runs, on Wednesday but was able to limit the damage for the most part. At this point he's a risky proposition outside of deep AL-only leagues.

Wei-Yin Chen hurled six innings of two-run ball, striking out eight, in a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday. He scattered six hits and declined to issue a free pass. This was a much-needed quality start from the Taiwanese hurler, who had surrendered 11 runs over 7 2/3 innings in his last two starts (in between those outings, Chen was demoted to the Gulf Coast League in a procedural move). He'll bring a 7-7 record and 3.82 ERA into next week's date against the Yankees.

Wei-Yin Chen will start Sunday against the Yankees. Chen was optioned earlier this week as a procedural move and will return when rosters expand Sunday. The 28-year-old left-hander will look to get back on track after posting a 6.00 ERA over five starts in August.

Orioles optioned LHP Wei-Yin Chen to GCL Orioles. Chen was blasted for eight runs over 3 2/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox. It's mostly a paper move, as he should be back when rosters expand Sunday, likely for a start against the Yankees.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed eight runs in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday. Chen turned in his shortest outing of the season and allowed the most runs he's given up in a single start all year. He did strike out five batters but allowed eight hits and three walks in the outing. The bad start moved him to 7-7 on the year and saw his ERA rise from 3.19 to 3.76. He's got another tough assignment against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

Wei-Yin Chen allowed two runs over seven innings in a win over the Rays on Wednesday. At this point the Orioles and fantasy owners know what they're getting from Chen every time out -- around seven innings, three or fewer runs, and a handful of strikeouts. And the formula has been effective, as Chen is now 7-6 with a 3.19 ERA in 16 starts this season. His task gets tougher when he travels to Fenway to take on the Red Sox next Wednesday.
