Rodriguez opted out of a minor league deal with Baltimore on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodriguez signed a minor league contract with the Orioles in April but has not made any farm system starts since then. The 37-year-old's decision to opt out of his minor league deal gives him a chance to sign with a big league club that will give him an opportunity to pitch in the majors again. With 1,500 major league innings pitched under his belt, it seems likely the veteran lefty will get picked up by another organization that needs pitching depth.

Rodriguez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Friday, Rock Kubatko of MASN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodriguez has been out of work since being released by the Astros in early April, but he will join an Orioles team that is looking for some starting pitching depth in the minors. He started 15 games for the Rangers last season and has 263 major league starts under his belt, so the Orioles could decide to call him up if a spot opens up in the big league rotation.

Rodriguez has been informed he will not make the Astros' Opening Day roster, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodriguez has not been released by the Astros yet, but he will likely exercise an opt-out clause in his contract. Rodriguez had a 4.90 ERA in 86.1 innings for the Rangers and last posted an ERA below 4.00 in 2013. We'll see if there are any teams out there that still believe he has any magic left, but there's usually some team out there that could use another veteran arm.

Manager AJ Hinch said that Rodriguez is in consideration for the final roster spot, Howard Chen of CSN Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
The other two competitors for the spot are James Hoyt and Michael Feliz. The left-hander has been solid this spring, posting a 0.92 WHIP and allowing only six runs in 13 spring innings, which could help him garner the last spot on the Astros roster.

Houston will have to make a decision whether Rodriguez will make the Opening Day roster by the end of the week, as the opt-out date of his minor league deal is approaching, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodriguez allowed one run on two hits with no walks and five strikeouts over four Grapefruit League innings Sunday against the Phillies, improving his spring ERA to 2.25 in four appearances (two starts). The 37-year-old has been impressive, but so have other southpaws Kevin Chapman (0.00 spring ERA), Edwar Cabrera (1.69) and Neil Cotts (3.38), all of whom are competing for a roster spot with the Astros.

Rodriguez retired six of the seven batters he faced Friday - including four via strikeout - to earn a Grapefruit League win against St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
"Today, guys, I used a lot of my fastball and tried to locate it," Rodriguez said. "I used only two or three curveballs today, but threw a lot of fastballs and changeups." The veteran southpaw is back with the team he made his big league debut with in 2005, but he'll need to string together several performances like this one to make the Astros' Opening Day roster.

Rodriguez will start the Astros' second Grapefruit League contest Friday against St. Louis, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 37-year-old southpaw will need a standout camp with the Astros to make the Opening Day roster, as Dallas Keuchel, Lance McCullers, Collin McHugh, Scott Feldman and Doug Fister are the favorites to open 2016 in Houston's starting rotation. Not to mention the presence of Mike Fiers, who made 30 starts between Milwaukee and Houston last year. Rodriguez made 17 appearances (15 starts) with Texas last season, going 4-3 with an unimpressive 4.61 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 86.1 innings.

Rodriguez will rejoin the Astros on a minor league contract, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rodriguez previously played for the Astros from 2005 to 2012, making 227 of his 275 career appearances for the organization that he originally came up with. He's no lock to make the Opening Day roster, as the team has obviously made a ton of progress since the lefty was traded as part of a rebuild. The 37-year-old Rodriguez will likely just provide depth in case the Houston rotation suffers a string of injuries, but his contract does include an invitation to big-league spring training, according to ESPN's Enrique Rojas.

Rodriguez picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits with two walks while striking out five in 5.1 innings against the Padres. Rodriguez was effective but not especially efficient, throwing 57 of 91 pitches for strikes before being removed in the sixth inning. That's now five straight starts in which Rodriguez has failed to complete six innings, yet the 36-year-old is 3-2 over that span. The lefty ends the unofficial first half with a 4.07 ERA and 1.45 WHIP.

Rodriguez struck out seven and walked two while holding the Orioles to one run on eight hits over five innings in a winning effort Monday night. The win improved his record to 5-3 on the season, while Rodriguez consistently stayed ahead of the Baltimore lineup (20-of-24 first-pitch strikes) Monday night. The seven-strikeout performance was Rodriguez's second best of the season, topped only by an eight-strikeout night against the Astros on May 5. Rodriguez will make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Angels in Arlington.
