Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will make another rehab start on Tuesday. Rodriguez, currently on the DL with right knee inflammation, allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings last Thursday with Double-A Altoona. It's not clear which affiliate he'll pitch with on Tuesday.

Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will remain on his rehab assignment for now. Rodriguez hasn't had a setback, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Sunday that the left-hander "needs more time." The southpaw allowed four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 frames for Double-A Altoona on Thursday. Jeff Locke will occupy Rodriguez's rotation spot for now.

Wandy Rodriguez (knee) allowed four runs -- three earned -- on four hits and three walks over 3 1/3 frames in a rehab start with Double-A Altoona Thursday. It's certainly not an ideal performance, especially after Rodriguez's struggles before going on the DL. It's possible he'll be activated to start against the Giants on Tuesday, but the Pirates might give Jeff Locke a start instead. "Wandy reported he felt fine after (the game)," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "We'll have to wait until we see him (Friday). The last time that this flared up, it flared up the day after he pitched."

Wandy Rodriguez (knee) will make a rehab start with Double-A Altoona on Thursday. Assuming the outing goes well, he'll rejoin the Pirates' rotation next week. Given how poorly Rodriguez looked before going on the DL and how good Brandon Cumpton looked in his first start filling in, the lefty's leash in the rotation doesn't figure to be very long.

Wandy Rodriguez (knee) is slated to make a rehab start around the middle of next week. Rodriguez has been cleared of any structural damage in his knee and will throw another bullpen session Sunday. He could just make the one rehab start before rejoining the Pirates' rotation. "In the MRI, he said I can pitch like that. [The doctors] took blood out and put in cortisone," said Rodriguez. "Maybe later, when I retire, I'll need surgery on my knee. Right now, it can stay like that."

Wandy Rodriguez had his right knee drained Monday before throwing a bullpen session. "We're going to give that a couple days to settle down, then he'll throw a bullpen, and we'll move forward as he's capable of moving forward," said Pirates manager Clint Hurdle. Hurdle added that it's "unclear" how long Rodriguez might be sidelined. "It depends on the guy. It depends on the age, what's involved. We'll just have to wait and see," the skipper said.

Pirates placed LHP Wandy Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list with right knee inflammation. Rodriguez has been a mess to start the season, allowing 17 runs in 20 innings over four starts. He has also surrendered a league-leading seven home runs. Rodriguez has struggled to throw with his usual velocity. The Pirates hope some rest will make their lefty better in the long run.

Wandy Rodriguez surrendered four earned runs over four innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Brewers. Rodriguez had nothing, topping out at 89 mph with his fastball while yielding six hits in his four frames. He now has a 7.65 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 20 innings this season, and it's hard to see the situation improving anytime soon. The Pirates may have to try someone else.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle admitted Tuesday that the club is keeping an eye on Wandy Rodriguez's velocity. Rodriguez is averaging 87.5 mph with his fastball, which is down about two mph. And not only is his heater down a couple ticks, he's been missing his spots. "The mistakes are getting covered and getting hit over the wall," Hurdle said. "It's a challenging time for him." Hurdle thinks Rodriguez could get his velocity back once the weather warms up, and the feeling is that the left has some leash before the club considers booting him from the rotation.

Wandy Rodriguez gave up six runs in five innings Monday versus the Reds. Rodriguez gave up three of the 10 homers that were hit in the six innings before the game was suspended. He's sitting on a 7.31 ERA after three starts, and the Pirates are going to have to seriously think about moving on from him and giving Jeff Locke a shot before much longer. Pitching with an arthritic elbow, Rodriguez's stuff just isn't what it used to be.
