Mets optioned catcher Travis d'Arnaud to Triple-A Las Vegas. The high-priced guys aren't hitting, so the rookie takes the fall. It's happened a million times before. D'Arnaud had started just seven games since returning from a concussion that put him on DL for two weeks. He hasn't been very good at any point during his major league career, but he also has nothing left to prove in the minors and he remains a better bet than the Mets' alternatives behind the plate. They'll probably start Anthony Recker for now, backing him up with Taylor Teagarden.

Travis d'Arnaud went 2-for-6 with an RBI groundout Friday against the Phillies. D'Arnaud went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Thursday in his return from the 7-day concussion disabled list, but he had some nice at-bats Friday. The 25-year-old backstop hasn't done much offensively in small samples between last year and the early part of this year, but the Mets are still hoping he can be a long-term solution at the catcher position.

Mets activated C Travis d'Arnaud from the 7-day disabled list. D'Arnaud suffered a concussion earlier this month when he was hit in the head by a backswing from the Yankees' Alfonso Soriano, but he's now symptom-free and made it through a couple of rehab games without incident. The 25-year-old was batting .196/.274/.314 with three homers and eight RBI in 31 games before the injury.

Travis d'Arnaud (concussion) has rejoined the Mets but will not be activated from the disabled list Wednesday. D'Arnaud played a couple rehab games at Double-A Binghamton this week and appears to have put his concussion symptoms behind him. However, it doesn't appear the Mets are ready to activate him just yet. That should come soon.
