Souza went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI and his 13th home run of the season in Sunday's win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
He'll be sorry to see the Texas pitching staff leave town, as Souza went 5-for-11 with two homers, five RBI and four runs scored over the weekend series. His 770 OPS so far in August is actually his best performance since he posted an 850 OPS in April, but his strikeout-prone nature will continue to leave him vulnerable to prolonged slumps. Ride Souza while he's hot but don't hesitate to cut him loose once he shows signs of cooling back down.

Souza went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring single, RBI double and a run in Saturday's 8-2 victory over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Souza provided some timely hitting for the second straight game, plating Tim Beckham with a seventh-inning single and then bringing him home again with an eight-inning two-bagger that closed out the Rays' scoring on the night. The outfielder has three hits and three RBI over the first two games of the series against the Rangers.

Souza went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The young slugger's box score was a microcosm of his season--one impressive 434-foot blast and three strikeouts. Souza has now whiffed a whopping 130 times over 344 at-bats, but has also tallied 28 extra-base hits over that span, including 12 homers. Despite an injury-shortened season, he's now only two RBI from matching the 40 he posted in 2015.

Souza went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs in a 12-0 blowout of the Royals on Wednesday. He was also caught stealing.
EDGE Analysis
A .350 hitter in the minors just two years ago, Souza's averages for his first two MLB seasons read .225 and .245 at this point in time -- and this year's slightly improved figure owes a lot to a .352 BABIP. Considering his increased strikeout rate (from already high to even higher) and decreased walk rate from last year, that figure won't be easy to sustain. This was Souza's first three-hit game since May 31 and just his fifth in 81 games this year. It's also notable that he's seen his steal success rate plummet -- last year's 12-for-18 wasn't very good, but it looks golden next to this season's 5-for-10 mark.

Souza went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
He's had a miserable month of July, hitting .203 (15-for-74) with no home runs while striking out 26 times, but Sunday's performance could be a sign that Souza's starting to hit the ball with a little more authority again. He'll remain a deep league option only until he can string together a few more good games, however.

Souza's struggles since his return from the DL have played a large part in his recent playing time reduction, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Kevin Cash has held the 27-year-old slugger out of the starting lineup for two of Tampa's last seven contests, and he's largely struggled in the games he's played during that span. Souza has one hit in his last 15 at-bats, and is hitting .197 with two extra-base hits in 17 games since his July 2 return from a hip injury. Personnel-related factors have also played a part in Souza's lack of participation, with the Rays outfield having recently received some reinforcements . "Obviously it's performance related," Cash said. "We're trying to find a balance. If you go back and look at our last eight games or so, it's kind of been a rotation in the outfield. KK (Kevin Kiermaier) is the one guy, we want to get him going because he missed a lot of the time. Corey Dickerson has come on strong here, and then (Oswaldo) Arcia, he is a guy that we want to see. Souza will continue to get back out there, in and out, just like a lot of the other guys."

Souza is not in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Souza will be held out of the starting lineup for the third time since the end of the All-Star break as Brandon Guyer fills in in right, batting seventh. After posting a .279 average through May 23, Souza entered a deep cold spell as he's batted just .198 in 126 at-bats since then, lowering his season slash line to .242/.295/.399.
