Souza went 3-for-5 with a homer, three RBI and two runs in a 12-0 blowout of the Royals on Wednesday. He was also caught stealing.
EDGE Analysis
A .350 hitter in the minors just two years ago, Souza's averages for his first two MLB seasons read .225 and .245 at this point in time -- and this year's slightly improved figure owes a lot to a .352 BABIP. Considering his increased strikeout rate (from already high to even higher) and decreased walk rate from last year, that figure won't be easy to sustain. This was Souza's first three-hit game since May 31 and just his fifth in 81 games this year. It's also notable that he's seen his steal success rate plummet -- last year's 12-for-18 wasn't very good, but it looks golden next to this season's 5-for-10 mark.
