Souza won the American League Player of the Week award Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The slugger enjoyed a momentous stretch between April 17 and 23 when he posted a quartet of multi-hit games, two doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine RBI and six runs. Souza has taken his game up a notch across the board thus far this season, slashing .333/.416/.590 over his first 90 plate appearances.

Souza went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's loss to Houston.
EDGE Analysis
Now sporting a seven-game hitting streak (12-for-29) with five runs, two home runs and nine RBI, Souza continues to provide excellent fantasy numbers. He's shown potential in the past and has kick-started what has the makings to be a breakout campaign through the first few weeks of the season.

Souza went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, a home run, three RBI and three runs during Thursday's win over Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old outfielder continues to rake to start the campaign and is now up to a .349/.438/.603 slash line with 11 runs, three home runs and 13 RBI. The hot stretch might have long legs, too. Souza entered Thursday's outing with a 36.6 hard-hit percentage and has flashed significant upside in the past. He's also in his third full season in the league and kick-starting his prime years.

Souza went 2-for-5 with two RBI singles in Wednesday's 8-7 win over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Souza's second hit of the day was particularly important, as it brought the Rays to within one run in the seventh. The slugging outfielder did strike out twice for the second straight game, but has also gone 5-for-12 with four RBI over the last three contests. He has whiffed at least one in nine consecutive games, however, so even a slight bump in contact rate would boost his already impressive .328/.426/.500 line.

Souza went 2-for-4 with two RBI during Monday's loss to Boston.
EDGE Analysis
The pair of RBI improved Souza to 10 for the campaign, and along with his .320/.424/.520 slash line, the 27-year-old outfielder is locked into a heater to start the year. He boasts a power-speed combo and has flashed potential in both categories since joining the Rays in 2015. However, he's struggled to make consistent contact at the highest level and has also missed games to injuries. Now in his third full season in the majors, a career year is well within reach, and Souza's strong start is an encouraging first step toward a breakout campaign.

Souza went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, solo home run, a walk and three runs in Friday's 10-5 win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Souza bounced back from a quiet last three games, a stretch in which he'd gone just 1-for-12. Friday's outing marked his fourth multi-hit effort of the season and pushed his RBI total to eight, leaving him just two behind team leader Logan Morrison. Souza is also sporting a team-high OBP of .426 and is setting the pace with 13 hits as well. However, after the slugger had struck out only twice in the first seven games, he's now whiffed seven times in the last four contests.

Souza went 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and two walks during Sunday's 7-2 win over the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Souza sneaked a three-run homer out to left field in the fourth inning, later walking and scoring on a base hit by Jesus Sucre. He is off to a tremendous start to the season and particularly enjoyed the weekend series against Toronto, going 7-for-14 with a home run, six RBI and three runs scored to raise his OPS to 1.200.

Fri 4/7/17 12:38 AM

Souza went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in Tampa Bay's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old was hitless on Opening Day, but in the three games since then, he's collected six hits. He also is making contact at an alarmingly good rate, as he's put the ball in play 90 percent of at-bats while striking out just once. Some regression should be expected, but Souza is riding high at the moment and will look to carry this momentum into the rest of the Rays' weekend series with Toronto.

Wed 4/5/17 7:53 AM

Souza went 2-for-4 in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Souza led off with Corey Dickerson taking a seat Tuesday against southpaw CC Sabathia. The slugging outfielder hit leadoff in only one game in 2016 and also tallied a pair of hits, including a solo home run, and it remains to be seen how frequently manager Kevin Cash may choose to deploy him at the top of the order this season.

Souza will lead off and play right field against the Yankees on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Souza batted fifth in the season opener and went 0-for-3 with a walk, but with the southpaw CC Sabathia taking the mound Tuesday, Souza will slide into the leadoff spot in favor of lefty hitting Corey Dickerson.
