Pearce (elbow) is feeling better after receiving a cortisone shot, Joe Meoli of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Manager Buck Showalter said that the team will know by Tuesday how they'll proceed with Pearce's injury. However, Pearce remains optimistic that he'll be able to avoid a stint on the DL. During Pearce's absence, Mark Trumbo is likely to get the bulk of the starts in right field.

Pearce got the start in right field Sunday and went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

With the ability to play both corner outfield spots along with first and second base while providing both power and on-base skills, Pearce should be a fit for a number of different contending clubs.

Pearce is hoping to avoid to getting dealt from the Rays before the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. "I hope not," Pearce said (regarding a possible trade). "I like this team a lot. I have fun every day when I come here. ..."

The veteran infielder has enjoyed a stellar season for Tampa, with a .312 average and .912 OBP among his stellar numbers. Pearce joined the Rays on a bargain one-year, $4.75 million deal in the offseason, and expresses an affinity for his tenure with the team despite their overall struggles, which he feels don't accurately reflect the club's overall talent level. "We've just been hit with injuries and bad luck all year, " he said. "If you would've told me this would be our record in the middle of the year, I'd tell you you were crazy. There's no way our team is as bad as our record reflects. We have a really good team. I believe we still have a good team. We're going to have a good team in the future. And I hope I stay."

Pearce is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.

With Logan Morrison (forearm) returning to the lineup and the game taking place in a National League park (no DH), Pearce was left out of Wednesday's lineup. He will be back in the mix this weekend when the Rays host the Yankees, although he could also be on the move at the trade deadline, as his .389/.484/.741 slash line against lefties ought to intrigue some contending teams.

Pearce is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
