Newcomb (12-9) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks across three innings to take the loss Sunday against the Naionals. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb allowed a two-run home run to Bryce Harper as part of a three-run first inning and served up another two-run shot to Anthony Rendon in the third. He induced just four swinging strikes while throwing first-pitch strikes to 7 of 17 hitters and recording two groundball outs. Newcomb was coming off a quality start in his previous outing, but overall he's failed to complete five innings in three of his previous four while taking a loss in each of those. He's not currently scheduled to start again during the regular season but could appear as a long relief man if the club decides to give him some additional work before the playoffs begin.

Newcomb (12-8) allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight over six innings in a win over the Giants on Monday. He did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty's control was much better than it was last week when he walked five over 4.1 innings against Boston. His inconsistency in finding the strike zone continues to hold Newcomb back, but he's shown improvement in that regard this season (5.1 BB/9 in 2017) and there's hope that the 25-year-old can take another step forward with his control in 2019. He lines up for three more regular-season starts (vs. STL, vs. PHI, @PHI).

Newcomb (11-8) allowed three runs on four hits and five walks across 4.1 innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb threw an unnerving 47 percent of his pitches for strikes as he tied his season high in walks. He made it virtually unscathed into the fifth inning, but he loaded the bases, walked in a run and then watched from the dugout as the bullpen allowed two inherited runners to cross. Newcomb has struggled mightily in SunTrust Park of late, allowing a whopping 21 earned runs over 17.2 innings combined in his last four starts at home. He'll look to bounce back in his next start on the road against the Diamondbacks.

Newcomb (11-7) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb was hit hard, allowing a pair of home runs and a double en route to giving up at least eight hits for the third time this year -- all of which have come in the last four outings. The southpaw has been struggling mightily of late, as he's been rocked for an 8.48 ERA over his last four starts to push his mark on the season up over a half run to 3.85. He'll draw a difficult matchup in his next attempt to bounce back, taking on the Red Sox at home Monday.

Newcomb (11-6) allowed two hits while walking three and striking out eight across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb took advantage of the weak Marlins lineup to record his first scoreless start since June 16. He also received an extra day of rest between starts, which may have aided him in bouncing back from consecutive subpar outings during which he surrendered 12 earned runs across 9.1 innings. While he got good results in Thursday's start, Newcomb did struggle with efficiency, requiring 111 pitches to retire 18 batters with only 64 of his 111 pitches going for strikes.

Newcomb (10-6) took the loss Friday as the Braves fell 11-5 to the Rockies, surrendering seven runs on nine hits and three walks over 5.1 innings while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
After reeling off three straight quality starts coming out of the All-Star break, the southpaw has hit a rough patch, coughing up 12 runs in 9.1 innings over his last two outings. The skid has added more than half a run to Newcomb's ERA, leaving him with a 3.73 mark as he looks to turn things around Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Newcomb allowed five runs on 12 hits and two walks across four innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Brewers. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb was knocked around early and often, easily surpassing his season high in hits allowed in this abbreviated outing. Despite the steady stream of baserunners, all the runs against Newcomb came on two base hits -- a two-run single from opposing pitcher Chase Anderson and a three-run home run from Jesus Aguilar. Luckily, the offense picked the struggling left-hander up in this one and got him off the books for a loss. Newcomb had allowed just three earned runs over 20.2 combined innings in his previous three starts and will look to bounce back this weekend against the Rockies.

Newcomb will start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, David O'Brien of The Athletic Atlanta reports.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb received some additional rest between starts following the promotion of Kolby Allard and the acquisition of Kevin Gausman from the Orioles before the trade deadline, resulting in no starts during the week. He will return to the bump Tuesday, looking to build off of a successful pair of starts against the Dodgers and Marlins in his last two turns.

Newcomb is slated to make his next start for the Braves during one half of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Braves' recent additions of prospect Kolby Allard and trade-deadline pickup Kevin Gausman to the rotation resulted in Newcomb getting pushed back in the schedule and missing out on a start this week. Even if the club hadn't promoted Allard or acquired Gausman, the Braves likely would have found some way to give Newcomb more than his usual rest between starts after the 25-year-old lefty tossed a career-high 134 pitches while falling one out shy of a no-hitter Sunday against the Dodgers. He'll return to the mound next week on eight days' rest, aiming to build on perhaps the best performance of his young career.

Newcomb (10-5) allowed one run on one hit and one walk across 8.2 innings Sunday to earn the win against the Dodgers. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb dominated a formidable opponent and carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning, only to see it broken up by a single from Chris Taylor. He was then removed with a whopping 134 pitches under his belt and watched as the bullpen allowed his inherited runner to score. Despite a bit of disappointment considering what could have been, it was an excellent outing for Newcomb, who now has a shiny 3.23 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP for the season. He's currently slated to face the Mets next weekend, but it remains to be seen if the club elects to give him an extra day or two of rest after this taxing outing.
