Scott Baker (elbow) threw five scoreless innings in his rehab debut Wednesday with Low-A Kane County. Baker retired the first 13 batters he faced and yielded just one hit in all. The right-hander is still making his way back from Tommy John surgery and still hoping to join the Cubs' rotation at some point this season.

Cubs General Manager Jed Hoyer indicated Friday that they expect Scott Baker (elbow) to pitch for them at some point in September. Baker has had a long and slow recovery from Tommy John surgery, but has started to make significant strides in recent weeks. He should return in time to make a few starts down the stretch for the Cubs, but would be a risky option for fantasy purposes.

Scott Baker (elbow) went four innings in Friday's rehab start with Low-A Kane County, allowing one run on four hits. The lone run came on a solo homer, while Baker struck out three in the game. While it's been a long and arduous recovery process, it appears that Baker will join the Cubs' rotation at some point in September.

Scott Baker (elbow) threw a bullpen session Monday. Baker hasn't pitched in the minors since July 29, though that's mostly due to three consecutive rainouts. However, he should be good to go after one more bullpen session. Barring any setbacks with his surgically-repaired right elbow, he should join the Cubs in September.

The Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer writes that Scott Baker (elbow) "continued to look a little hesitant in snapping off full-velocity fastballs and sharp breaking balls" in his latest rehab start Wednesday. "That comes with the territory [of Tommy John surgery rehab]," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "I'm kind of looking forward to when he gets up to that 85 [pitch limit next time] and knowing he's going to go further [in the game] to see what happens." Baker holds an ugly 13.50 ERA and 5/6 K/BB ratio over his first three rehab outings, so he obviously has a ways to go before joining the Cubs' rotation.
