Scott Baker will start on Friday against the Tigers. Robbie Ross was demoted to a relief role on Tuesday and Baker is going to get the first crack at the vacant rotation spot. Baker made a promising start earlier this month against a good Rockies lineup, allowing just two runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Still, the 32-year-old right-hander is not an attractive fantasy option.

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Scott Baker from Triple-A Round Rock. Baker got designated for assignment last Thursday because he threw 79 pitches on Wednesday. Now, six days later, he's back because Justin Germano threw 81 pitches last night. Baker has to hope he's not needed to throw 80 pitches tonight, because he'd probably get shipped off again immediately.

Rangers sent RHP Scott Baker outright to Triple-A Round Rock. Baker has accepted the assignment and will remain in the organization. He was designated for assignment last week after allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings in relief.

Rangers designated RHP Scott Baker for assignment. Baker was just called up on Wednesday and allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings in relief of Colby Lewis against the Rockies. It's unfortunate to see him get the boot after doing well in mop-up duty, but he likely wouldn't have been available to pitch for another few days.

In his first day with the Rangers, Scott Baker came out of the pen to throw 5 1/3 innings and allow two runs Wednesday against the Rockies. Baker gave the Rangers what they needed after a short start from Colby Lewis. Now he'll have to wait and find out whether he'll get to stick around or if he'll be exchanged for another fresh arm. Obviously, he's going to need at least three and probably four days off after throwing 79 pitches tonight.

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Scott Baker from Triple-A Round Rock. Baker had a 3.32 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 30/11 K/BB ratio in 38 innings (six starts) this season at Round Rock. He will pitch out of the Rangers' bullpen initially but could be in line for a spot start down the road.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Scott Baker is not planning to use his opt-out. Baker has posted a 2.81 ERA and 26/10 K/BB ratio in 32 innings (five starts) this season with the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate. The right-hander could get a shot in Texas soon, so he'll remain with the Rangers organization rather than testing the free agent waters.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com is hearing that the White Sox and Indians could pursue Scott Baker is he opts out of his minor league deal with the Rangers. Baker can use his opt out clause on Thursday, which he'll certainly do if he can get a major league job elsewhere. The veteran right-hander holds a 2.81 ERA and 26/10 K/BB ratio in 32 innings across five starts with Triple-A Round Rock this season.

Scott Baker can opt out of his minor league contract with the Rangers on Thursday. Baker, who latched on with the Rangers toward the end of spring training, has a 2.81 ERA and 26/10 K/BB ratio in 32 innings across five starts with Triple-A Round Rock. He'll likely opt out if he can land an opportunity in the majors elsewhere.

Rangers signed RHP Scott Baker to a minor league contract. The deal was reported Wednesday, and it's now official after Baker passed a physical. The right-hander used an opt-out clause in his contract with the Mariners earlier this week and has landed with another club desperate for starting pitching. He'll begin the season in the minors but could get a shot quickly if he pitches well.
