Scott Baker (elbow) was charged with four runs on six hits and a walk over three innings in his first rehab start with Low-A Kane County Sunday. One of the hits he gave up left the yard. It's not a good looking line for the rehabbing righty, but that's hardly a surprise given how little Baker has pitched over the last year and a half. He's hoping to join the Cubs' rotation next month.

Scott Baker (elbow) is scheduled to throw 65 pitches on Sunday with Low-A Kane County. Baker hasn't pitched this season after he suffered a setback with his surgically-repaired elbow during spring training, but he hasn't had any issues during recent bullpen sessions. The Cubs are hoping he'll be able to make his season debut next month.

Scott Baker (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday with Low-A Kane County. Baker hasn't pitched at all this season after he suffered a setback with his surgically-repaired elbow during spring training, but he hasn't had any issues during recent bullpen sessions. The Cubs are hoping he'll be able to make his season debut at some point in August.

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said that the club has discussed bringing back Scott Baker for next season. Baker has yet to throw a pitch for the Cubs after inking a $5.5 million deal over the winter, though he could join the rotation next month. The Cubbies still think he could be a factor, though, as long as he's healthy. "It's something that we've certainly talked about," Hoyer said. "He's a fantastic person and a really good teammate. (When) he had the setback in spring training, he was apologetic to us and we felt worse for him. Not to get ahead of ourselves - we'll see how things go - but he's certainly the kind of guy you like to have in the organization, for sure."

Scott Baker (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Thursday at Wrigley Field. The Chicago coaching staff wants to get a good look at how far the right-hander has progressed from his recent elbow setback. If the throwing session goes well, Baker may be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment. He's on track to debut around mid-August.

Scott Baker (elbow) will throw his second simulated game on Saturday. Baker has been slowly building up his arm strength since he was shut down at the end of spring training. Assuming he stays on schedule, Baker believes that he'll be ready to rejoin the Cubs' rotation at the end of August.

Scott Baker (elbow) did some light tosses from a distance of 45 feet Monday. It was Baker's first time throwing since he was shut down near the end of spring training with a right elbow strain. The Cubs will know a lot more about his timetable once he starts to build up his workload.

Cubs placed RHP Scott Baker on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow strain. Baker will remain shut down for the next three weeks before being re-evaluated. A clearer timetable for his return will be known at that point, though obviously we won't see him until at least late May.

Scott Baker will be shut down for a month after being diagnosed with a right elbow strain. A tough break for the right-hander. Baker had been slated to miss only the first couple weeks of the season as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery, but obviously he'll be out much longer than that now. He'll be re-evaluated after the shutdown period, at which point a clearer timetable for his return will become known.
