Ruben Tejada went 0-for-3 with a walk on Friday against the Rockies and is hitting just .200 through 26 games.
Tejada has 13 walks and a .318 on-base percentage, but that's not as impressive as it looks. Hitting No. 8 in front of the pitcher, five of the walks are intentional. If Tejada continues to struggle, it will be interesting to see if the Mets give Wilmer Flores a chance at shortstop, even with all the doubts about his range. Flores jammed his finger in a game with Triple-A Las Vegas over the weekend, but he managed to avoid a fracture.

Ruben Tejada went 3-for-3 with a double in the Mets' 7-6 win over the Braves on Thursday.
Anthony Recker hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Mets. Tejada's strong showing was much-needed; he raised his average from .120 to .217 on the day. Despite his struggles both offensively and defensively this spring, he will be the Mets' starting shortstop.

Mets manager Terry Collins said he told Ruben Tejada after Thursday's poor showing, "you're the shortstop here."
"I talked to him today about trying to relax a little bit," Collins said. "I said, 'Listen, you're the shortstop here. Your name and your number are going to be in the lineup. Go be the player we know you can be." Tejada is 1-for-15 and has committed three errors in Grapefruit League play, but he remains the club's best internal option at shortstop. However, Tejada's struggles could help convince GM Sandy Alderson to go after Nick Franklin or Stephen Drew.

Ruben Tejada went 0-for-3 as the Mets' leadoff hitter and committed an error against the Nationals on Thursday.
With one hit in 15 at-bats and three errors, Tejada is doing nothing to inspire any confidence. He's still the Mets' best internal option at shortstop, but he's making Stephen Drew look like a better alternative every day.

Ruben Tejada went 0-for-2 and struggled defensively Friday in his return from a mild hamstring injury.
Tejada had two balls get by him at shortstop. One was an error. The other was a hit, but Tejada should have been able to knock it down, which would have at least prevented the runner from scoring from second. That Tejada was making his first appearance in a week could get him a bit of a free pass, but he's done nothing so far to solidify the starting job that's his to win.

Ruben Tejada (hamstring) is expected to return to Grapefruit League action on Friday.
Tejada sat out a couple days with tightness in his left hamstring. He is trying to win the Mets' starting shortstop gig and can't afford to miss any more time.

Ruben Tejada (hamstring) isn't expected to return to action until at least Friday.
Tejada is currently battling left hamstring tightness. It's not the start he had in mind this spring as he attempts to win back the starting shortstop job.

Ruben Tejada was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to a tight left hamstring.
It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined, but Tejada can't afford to miss too much time as he tries to work his way back into the Mets' good graces. Anthony Seratelli is starting at shortstop Sunday in Tejada's place.

Kevin Kernan of the New Yost Post reports that the Mets have "not been overwhelmed" by the shape Ruben Tejada reported to camp in.
Tejada attended an offseason conditioning program at the request of the Mets, but a source told Kernan that the shortstop "looks pretty much the same" as he did before. It's clear that he's still not in the team's good graces, but with Omar Quintanilla currently the only thing standing in his way, he still holds the starting shortstop job. The Mets, of course, have been linked to Stephen Drew for some time now, but they appear at the moment only willing to offer him a one-year, $9.5 million deal.

Mets and Ruben Tejada avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
Tejada struggled mightily in 2013, batting .202/.259/.260 in 57 games. The Mets have continuously stated a willingness to enter next season with the 24-year-old as their starting shortstop, but they're also believed to be keeping their options open. The team is believed to be one of the clubs in the market for Stephen Drew.
