RHP Ross Ohlendorf opted out of his deal with the Boston Red Sox, becoming a Free Agent. Ohlendorf was 4-3 with a 4.61 ERA over 10 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket. He should have no problem finding another opportunity, though he'll likely have to settle for another minor league deal to do so.

Red Sox reassigned RHP Ross Ohlendorf to minor league camp. Ohlendorf got a late start this spring and was never a legitimate threat for one of the final two rotation spots. He'll serve as starting pitching depth with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Ross Ohlendorf (back, shoulder) made his spring debut Monday by pitching two scoreless innings against the Marlins. Ohlendorf is more of a project for the Red Sox than someone the team is counting on for Opening Day. He'll likely start off in Triple-A while the organization sorts through some of its other pitchers.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Friday that Ross Ohlendorf is not a possibility for the start of the season. Ohlendorf has fallen behind the other pitchers in camp due to a back sore back and concern over his past shoulder issues. He threw batting practice Thursday and hopes to pitch in a game early next week, but he may have to begin the season with Triple-A Pawtucket.

Ross Ohlendorf (back) has been cleared to throw batting practice Saturday for the first time this spring. Ohlendorf is slightly behind some of the other pitchers in camp because of back tightness, but he has thrown three mound sessions. The 29-year-old was limited to eight starts last season due to shoulder problems and is a long shot to make the major league rotation.

Ross Ohlendorf has been nursing a sore back in camp but has started throwing in the bullpen. He's considered only a few days behind the other pitchers, so, barring a setback, it doesn't sound like a big deal. Ohlendorf, who missed most of last season with shoulder issues, will try to win an Opening Day roster spot but might have to begin the year at Triple-A.

Ross Ohlendorf said Tuesday that his shoulder is fine. Ohlendorf is slightly behind the other pitchers in Red Sox camp because of back tightness, not anything having to do with his previous shoulder injuries. He developed the back discomfort while traveling to spring training and should get over it within the next couple of days.

Ross Ohlendorf (shoulder) is not on the same pace as some of the other pitchers in Red Sox camp. Ohlendorf has been bothered by shoulder injuries over the past two seasons, so the Red Sox are just playing it safe. The 29-year-old righty signed a minor league deal with the club last week and has an outside chance of winning a rotation spot.

Red Sox signed RHP Ross Ohlendorf to a minor league contract. Ohlendorf arrived at Red Sox camp on Thursday morning. He has only an outside shot of making the Opening Day roster after registering an ugly 8.15 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in eight starts last season for the Pirates while fighting shoulder issues. The 29-year-old righty was released by Pittsburgh in December.

Pirates released RHP Ross Ohlendorf. Ohlendorf missed nearly all of the 2011 season because of shoulder problems and registered a weak 8.15 ERA in eight starts while healthy. He might have to settle for a minor league contract this winter.
